Purposeful Obsolescence terrifies me

So go here and watch the vid, and you can join me in the horrified group of people reminded that this guy way back in the fifties said, "Hey, let's design all goods sold in the U.S. to wear out as fast as possible so people will have to buy more in an ever-increasing and speeding spiral of spending and trash! It'll be great for our economy!" ...and SUCK for the rest of the world.

So not joking.

Who knows, probably everyone but me already knew anyway.

The vid loads a little slow, but it's really well done, somewhat humorous, quite liberal and all-encompassing (environmental degradation, immigration, urbanization, human rights...), and the art style is kinda cute.

In other news the thermometer says it's 70 F outside. We get warm flashes in January in Virginia, but most of the time they're the first warm weather we've had in a few months, not following maybe a week of cold weather that followed months of 40s alternating with 60s.

On the up-side, we went walking yesterday in the woods, a little 3-mile hike, and it was incredibly gorgeous and peaceful. We saw a piliated woodpecker and my koi identified a ladyslipper just by its leaves (since, you know, no flowers in the winter...yet)! I was so proud of her.

At work a co-worker asked me to help put together a display this month on graphic novels, since they are rather my area of specialty. Now it looks like I'm mostly the one doing it - she'll help, but it's kinda my game. =__O Interesting...
I think I need to eat.
Also, I need to remember that singing "What is this feeling" under my breath all day (from Wicked the musical), is probably not conducive to feeling love and compassion towards all beings, since the chorus is "Loathing, unadulterated loathing, for your voice, your face, your clothing"...

life, work, disturbing details
