Why do I bother trying to come up with clever subject headers?

Okay. Here's the news today.
I have discovered a joyous thing. Monty Python fans, at last the question of unladen swallows has been answered. This is great and made me happy in that geekish kind of way. Clearly this guy is way, way smart and educated in areas of math that frighten me to think about, but I LIKE the way he uses it.

Also - Blackle.com. Very interesting idea, and interesting the way it has played out. It's an alternative Google site, set up with a black background because someone posited that white backgrounds use more energy than black, which they do - on CRT screens. NOT on LCD screens, where black actually uses slightly more energy than white - only a watt or so, depending on size of monitor, but still. Blackle has an energy-use counter that shows how much energy it has supposedly saved since its inception - unfortunately estimating with numbers from inaccurate data. I "blackled" the site itself and found an article on Techlogg.com (I think) pointing out the holes in the numbers, and although I dislike the tone of the article (quite unnecessary mockery towards people with an earnest desire to use less electricity however possible), they have a point in that we're switching to LCD screens more and more. For those with the other kind, though, Blackle is a worthwhile effort.

I'm off work today. At first I looked at this as a reason I should get everything (whatever it turned out to be) done today, but the thing is, life is not just a list of duties to be checked off one by one. I have a hard time remembering this. So I'mma chill. And this evening celebdu and tiamatorin are coming to celebrate New Years. It is likely to be fun and companionable and nowhere near as rowdy and wild as last year, which was crazy fun, but I don't think my koi and I could handle it just now, having just got over our two-week sick stint. There may be drinking and movie-watching, and possible pesto-pizza-eating involved. We shall see.

thoughts, friends, good life
