Kaleido Star [ep. 49]

Oh My God...

Sora! Layla!

I... I need the next episode so badly. I didn't really think Layla would try it and I don't care that I know the result already (I mean, come on), but it's exactly what Layla and Sora need to come full circle (and it's indirectly Yuri vs. Leon again, ahahahahaha--their fight was one of the coolest I'd ever seen; who else but circus performers would use trapezes for a duel?!). It's hard to believe the outright disdain Layla had for Sora in episode 1 and how much of a bitch Layla seemed (she is not only 18 years old, dammit! I don't care what the website says!). So much has happened between them and so much was left undone because of the Mystical Act that this is the perfect way to finally tie it all up. And what a way! I knew Layla could do it! <-- blind worship But OMG, if Sora does this... it'll be like the student overcoming the teacher! ;_; I loved Sora's determined look when the whole announcement was sprung on her considering how a lot of this episode was a reflection on her desire to create a stage without conflict and how the preview has flashbacks to their previous shows, the Arabian Nights and Freedom performances, with Sora's voiceover.

This episode was lovely all on its own. Hell, I was even glad to see May coming out of her shell and overcoming some of her inferiority complex. But let's just face it; trying to upstage Sora is like Sisyphus actually getting his stone to the top of the hill and keeping it there. Competing against her is indeed like a special hell all in itself. May never had a chance, really, even when she was star of Kaleido Stage for a bit. D: However, I am definitely interested in this "Eternal Illusion" act she's dreamed up. Sadly, it won't be as crazy as the Demon Spin (Spiral?). I definitely feel like Mia when I'm writing, too, and watching her struggle was cute if a bit too disturbingly resonant. Augh. I think Anna's comedic efforts need serious help though; just because a seal (Johnathan!) enjoys your humor doesn't mean it works... Also sad that we will not be seeing any cool diablo sequence from Rosette, but we knew she would be moving away from that. Poor Ken is still sending lovingly worried looks at an oblivious Sora. I am so amused how the potential romance in this series is completely undermined by the heroine's naivety of it even existing. (Sora + Kaleido Stage = OTP)

Oh, and Leon's "special training" is just a little extreme. Just a little. And didn't Sora already go through his special training?! Do we not remember Sora standing one-legged in all sorts of places, including in the aisle of a moving bus where passengers stared at her oddly, when Leon was trying to determine if she was a worthy partner? It seems like these past few episodes all that hard work she did then was thrown out the window. AND wasn't she close to completing the Angel's Act (this sounds so much cooler in Japanese) for the festival?

And just why does everyone in America speak Japanese? =D (The Dub would actually make more sense in this instance, but the dub is so horrible that I want to spork someone.)

I'm also still trying to figure out when Yuri went from a character I despised to one that makes me smile.

PS: How does one do screencaps? I wish I could have included pics with this post.
