pixiv, why do you ruin my life?!: "Revolutionary Girl Utena" Edition

Dec 26, 2012 19:17

Oh god, I've discovered the Shoujo Kakumei Utena tag at pixiv.

Why is so much of it so pretty? Delicious ensemble pics. And cute?! ;_; Argh, we can't pretend this was a happy show!

Too. Many. Lush. Utena. Anthy. Pics. Really. For reals. On and NSFW on. Sigh. Never this happy canonically. Who tops? Neither (NSFW) in defiance of gravity!

Marimite doesn't merit a mention?

I have Word of Gay listed for Mai Otome on TvTropes: the Drama CDs.

SKU is a show that stuck in my head. Everyone's story makes you think and pause. Because they all need therapists. They live in this Lord of the Flies playground where they've been told that if you want something, you have to take it--by force or by wiles. With everyone playing that game (within a larger game), any cracks or fissures you had in your personality are just guaranteed to worsen. The point is to break them and see who doesn't break. It doesn't help either that they're all teenagers with raging hormones. And yet people don't hate on the characters as much as they do Evangelion's, which is the other infamous Everyone Is Fucked Up show. Is it because Evangelion put on airs of "journey of teenage self-discovery" in the first half of the series, so the backlash against any perceived push to like the throroughly unlikable characters is greater ( ... )

Marimite is also a strange beast in that everything is subtextual but for Sei being canonically into girls. All the seour relationships are arguably intense Romantic Two Girl friendships. Never mind that the novels are ramped up with luscious physical descriptions from Yumi's POV. It just . . . doesn't quite cross that line. You can pair off Sei but her "partners" are just as dubious--and it's not clear that she'd hit on any of them openly but for her teasing of Yumi. Because it's Yumi ( ... )

Ugh, okay, KnM is pretty horrid. Don't watch it.

Not pretty horrid. Horrifically horrid.

I feel dirty now.

Ahahahaha. I did sit through a Twilight movie. I didn't find it engagingly horrid; rather, I found it boring to the point where I didn't engage with it to any degree that would have resulted in an assessment.

Oh... You did not like Mecha ?
:DDDDDDDDDDDDD

No, the mecha was probably the least offensive bit of the whole thing! D:

Is this one of those Seinfeld is Unfunny works? Himeko/Chikane are listed as "Goddesses of Yuri" in multiple places but they're terrible characters, much less their Bella/Edward dynamic! Which becomes twincest in one of the sequels!?

Good. I hated them dearly, but greywing needs to buy a barbie mecha, so this may be a good example ;D

Seinfeld is Unfunny
LOL I had to google it :D. And I don't know, but yes, they might work as a shining example for others of the worst seme/uke ever? Himeko makes me wanting to shoot her And, pliiizz, don't accuse me of seeing any sequels. XD
What I am aiming at is that it happened that KnM and Mai Hime were aired about the same time and almost automatically Chikane and Shizuru were compared. As you can imagine Chikane won easily a crazy lesbian bitch from hell competition. And that's why sometimes I wonder why people are so hard on Shizuru :D They definitely did not see KnM LOL

Sequels you say....
;)

One example of bad behavior does not cancel another, lesser one out. XD Shizuru may make out worse because up to a certain point she's a likable and sympathetic character. Then Sunrise threw her off the crazy cliff. You have to reconcile her actions during that episode or redeem her to some extent if you want to restore her to heroic status. That's the frustrating part for any fan.

That is to say, because she wasn't abhorrent most of the time, when she did cross a line of decent, rational behavior, it was even more offensive and horrifying.

If Shizuru went off a cliff, Chikane jumped from a stratosphere. And fans still love her, too :DDDDDDDD

Fandom carries only one lesson: Fans are crazy.

It wasn't all bad for Shizuru: it was probably her unexpected popularity in Mai HiME that elevated her into a bigger role as one of the good guys in Mai Otome. As far as I understand it, she was barely in the manga, so that was solely due to her anime incarnation.

Don't mention Mai Hime manga in front of me pls... You can talk all you want about Otome and Destiny mangas though :)

Ahahahaha. I never bothered to look at the manga. Ditto the SKU manga. These cross-media creations where every instance has its own canon based on a single seed idea tend to be . . . polarizing. Juri in love with Touga and a mixture of her own character and Nanami's rich bitch qualities? Pass. XD I'll take the broken bird that's bitter at Utena for being a wide-eyed idealist.

Very well said :)

I have no idea why I own Utena manga.

In Otome mangas they learned their lessons. ShizNat is alive and kicking :D
