Why is so much of it so pretty? Delicious ensemble pics. And cute?! ;_; Argh, we can't pretend this was a happy show!

I have to say I was shocked I could remember so much of the story and so many of the characters. SKU is a story that really stuck with me.
I'd say Nanami didn't scream bi. (She had a lot of choice words for many characters. If I remember correctly, she even calls Utena a "dyke" at some point. And she discovers a few uncomfortable truths by the end of the show, which is interesting since she's a joke character for the most part.) Miki, for all that he is one of the most effeminate male characters (voiced by a female seiyuu even), was really only interested in Himemiya . . . and his stopwatch. Really the people who scream bi or ambiguously straight are Touga, Saionji (to a lesser extent), and Akio. Although Kozue seemed like she enjoyed macking on Himemiya when they were riding around in the Akio Car. Shiori is hard to read because she seemed to be opportunistically predatory: if she saw something that interested Juri, she tried to step in. Her inferiority complex is pretty much her driving force.
Of course, this is not to say that fandom hasn't slashed and paired every character six ways from Sunday. I've seen Juri/Nanami fic. I think it was by Dreiser, even!
. . . Talking about Utena makes you sound like a crazy person.
