Face issue: I think the girls knew that Yoona had a special quality about her that would make her a face anyway--one of them said that even as a trainee, she had an angelic quality about her that made you look twice/think twice about bullying her.
Dude/dudette, Tiffany's eye-smile is all about the fringe. It makes you focus on her eyes, which suddenly suck you in, and stun you. Without her fringe, Tiffany is dangerously close to being Miyoung.
-thinks- Yeah, Soyeon just gives me an uber fierce vibe, even with her T-ara styling now. She's got a bitch!stare, and I meant that in a neutral way. And I think with the success of Boa, all the girl trainees would have been trained the same way in powerful singing/dancing.
Grey: Yuri was babyfaced but her 12 year old audition clip showed her doing some stunning waves and moves to Boa, and she was clearly v comfortable already with her body back then. Not saying she was sexed-up then or anything, but being comfortable with using her body like that probably helped her a lot.
Yes, Tiffany does have an R&B vibe to her voice, but I was thinking, how much of that is due to what she's been listening to and thus trained herself to model? Doubt the girl has too much showtunes background, if High School Musical is one of her favourite shows O.o I just think that the richer quality of her voice can translate to showtunes too, although showtunes belting might just kill her voice, since I think (and please correct me if I'm wrong) you can't cheat so much when you transition to your headvoice in showtunes. It's gotta be solid all the way, whereas Tiffany has been relying on a tolerable but distinctly weakened headvoice ever since her throat got damaged. Am I making sense?
Ham! Friend of bacon :D No, seriously, Tiffany emotes every darn line she sings, bless her heart. It sometimes goes overboard (cf winking every 3 secs in their cover of Tell Me), but she does everything she can to make sure you understand what the line is about, even if you don't speak Korean--open eyes, hand on chest, head tilt, wink, flutter eyelashes, she's only outdone by Sunny in this department. Besides, she had aspirations to be an actress recently, right? Given her personality, she probably likes shows with Big Emotions too. I don't quite know how to explain myself, but anyway, watch her work the camera/any line she's given, and watch Taeng, who just does what she has to do.
Fame: Yes, I saw them before, but it merely sparked the hunger, not assuaged it! Those are nice, but I want the girls to sing/dance/emote it, because that'd be pure heaven. It fits them to a T, every sweating panting earnest moment of it. Admit that you wanted a live version of them too!
Eye-smile: I don't know, she was sporting long hair extensions in the Jeti HB, but it was still pretty devastating. I think it just took fandom-colored glasses to convert me.
Yuri: Even so, "Gahee's girl" Yuri as it is now is a fairly recent development. Even in the Porno Shidae MV(in which WTFWTFWTFBBQ Sooyoung mashes a cake in the customer's face camera) she's nowhere near as "family-friendly" as Playbunny Sunny. Then again, this is during the Gee era, and it includes a bit from the end of 2007 at the end. :P
I'm not clear on what you mean by headvoice. Percussionist, never vocally trained. :P But your point on HSM is good. Ham-ness only works with certain songs, though. I ranted before how I hate that new R&B-ish covers of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Over the Rainbow" over-emote and destroy the song. "Anything You Can Do" would be perfect for ham, though. It would be interesting to see who could do the "hold a note longer" or "reach a note higher".

Imagine a sing-off with random boyband (don't really care who, scuse my bias) and SNSD 9, Taeng can do the line on note holding I guess, and Sica can do her dolphin squeal for the "I can sing it higher", and Sunny can ahem, step up for the line on "I can wear a sweater/I can fill it better".
