that reminds of something i wanted to share with you! I talked to this girl who used to be a big fan of Blackbeat (Jaewon's group) and she said that the main reason Jaewon's still in SM is cos he has to finish his contract and pay his dues to SM since Blackbeat failed...he couldn't take up other opportunities that came his way. I don't really know what they were but I guess I can kind of see it since the cutesy SNSD dances don't seem like his specialty either (Have you seen the guy pop/lock!! It's insane!!)
That got me thinking..and if SNSD does disband one day and the girls are still relatively young (considering that they're only 21(?)) I really hope Hyo doesn't get held back at SM just for contract reasons :(
I mean she would make a great mentor considering what Onew said, but if there's a possibility that Hyo wants to take a stab at a solo career or whatever I hope she will be able to.. its still early I guess but that made me panic for a bit!
On a happier note! I love how you are with me on the Junyoung train:D I saw their cyworlds too and Kyung Rae left a message for JunYoung at the same time!! His message to her is "curious"..haha so am I! But while I was bored and in stalking mode I realized he has a lot of dancer friends..I had never pictured him as a dancer before keke.. but if he is one then I DEMAND a HyoJunyoung performance^^. Another idea that interested me is if Hyo had a performance featuring a younger trainee..or a friend guest like Junsu had Hyukjae and Key/ Yunho had Donghae etc. I would love Min there but if not, Nicole would be great too (cos something gave me the impression that they practise dance together!) but my favourite would still be a Hyo+guy performance^^.

yeah! that depressed me too! I was blown away by her confidence and showmanship like you said..it felt like I was seeing the Hyoyeon of the pre-debut/early days!! But of course, people always criticize and I can accept comments like "I like Yuri's style of dance better than Hyo" but the ones that go "Of course, Hyoyeon has the moves but I like Yuri's face better so therefore she is a better dancer" that make me go >.< And yes, these comments are mostly from SNSD fans!
Thus the "non-dancers" are usually pushed off to the sides more in the special dance performances.
sometimes the non dancers make the performance sloppy though and hold them back haha bias bias but I think most of the time they only include the non singers in CF songs so its ok to admit my evil thoughts haha

Hrm. I did hear that Hyo was perhaps contracted only for as long as SNSD lasts but it's also true that if they disbanded earlier than expected, she'd have a lot of debt to repay since she was one of the longest trained members. However, at the time I'd heard that rumor, I thought that Hyo having such a comparatively "short" contract really pointed to SM not having much interest in Hyo as an artist and it made me sad. But perhaps if that's true there's a good side to it? YoonA is SM's artist until she hits her 30s, no? Should Hyo want to move onto new ventures, perhaps she'll have the freedom to do so? Yet I wonder what her chances will be if the promotion she receives continues at this level.

I think the problem with the possibility of seeing Min is that she isn't a debuted artist. As for Nicole, I agree. She's probably Kara's strongest dancer, but more interesting to me is that we've seen evidence of her hanging out with Min and Hyo--I've always wondered how in the world Hyo and Nicole met up in the first place and was even more blown away when I saw those three hanging out.
In the end, I'd love to see Hyo do another piece with a male dancer.

People argue that the non-singers hold back the vocals. How many times have you seen people express disapproval of Hyo's voice/her part in a song ("Gee" was a surprise to many, even as a new fan I could see that in the comments)? Even I, sometimes, am jarred by her voice. I'm not going to delude myself and say that Hyo has perfect vocals: she doesn't. Too often for my liking she goes off-key in live performances. I do, however, sometimes feel a literal pang in my gut when I hear her lower tones suddenly come piercing out of a song: the BoA cover; "As Time Goes By"; her rap in "Tell Me"; songs I can't think of off the top of my head, but it's a short list. I could wrap myself up in that husky voice. I wish they let her cover lower harmonies; they don't seem to do lower harmonies in their songs. =(

aww that makes me really sad!! If they trained her for soo long they should at least give her a fighting chance to show what she's capable of. But like you said, its a business and they only want to get maximum profit from minimum efforts >.< Your insights on the shortest training period+greatest activities really opened my eyes.i had never thought of it that way before!! interesting indeed!

how they met seems interesting but it makes so much sense that they're close ^^ Nicole is like the biggest social butterfly..or ties in place with Fany..haha but I think Nicole and Min have the American+dance connection so maybe they were friends first and then Hyo was brought in by Min?
I wonder if Hyo still goes into Winners these days..probably not with their schedule but Hyo does have the least and she seems like she still has the same love for dancing so it would be cool if she had a Winners dance crew performance! except i doubt SM has that much faith in her to allow it..already they find it difficult to fit her into their cookie cutter image.. they should just let go and see how that goes!

I know! But the difference is if they are singing or dancing as SNSD as a whole I have no problems at all.I want them together. But if its a special dance stage that rarely ever happens then I would prefer seeing just the main dancers..especially when the singers get so many opportunities like the Travel lalala show or just them singing the OST songs/There You'll be/on radio shows etc...anyway i kinda got my wish with the SNSD MJ performance/SBS idol show so I won't say more!(Can't imagine Fany or Taeyeon moonwalking :P)
Totally agree on her lower register!! *As time goes by* was amazing ...beyond amazing..the HyoTae sounded wonderful too and that Boa-My name performance*diess*!!!I really hope they let the lower pitched members like Yuri and Hyo have a duet or something..that'll blow the people away:D and *AS time goes* by proved they can!!Maybe they can do another Tasha song or Lexy.. with an R&Bish vibe. I remember someone mentioning she could pull off old-school Son Dambi well..I'd like to see!! come one, SM give her one shot and I'll shut up :D!

Re: HyoColeMin. I know you may not know the answers but: Min isn't Korean American, is she? She's Korean but was sent over to train and prepare (for a debut that never successfully launched), right? What year was she sent to the US to begin training there? And interesting, you think Min met Nicole before Hyo did? Hrm, but when did Fany and Nicole become friends? I find it puzzling just because the three of them are all from different talent agencies (SM, DSP, JYP), lol. And I always wonder what Hyo and Min hanging out must be like (+ Gina Choi and/or PKJ); they must bust out all the American hip-hop together. I wonder if they take out the American gangsta talk.

I actually wonder if Hyo has a vocal trainer. We know YuRi still sees one, since she complained to her vocal trainer about the others teasing her. Hrm.
Very true about vocal vs. dance special opportunities. I still hold that singing has the greater prestige, so it's more impressive in the business to be a great singer rather than a great dancer. (Or you can just be BoA and be stunning in both fields.) Not surprising, really, when it's the music itself that has to sell to a larger audience; there are plenty of artists I know almost purely through the music I've heard from them, while not knowing at all what the artists look like.

Yeah, my guess is cos they can both communicate in English and are dancers they met somehow ^.^ (maybe when Nicole was auditioning around?) and then Hyo became friends with Nicole through Min. As for Fany, I think I'm 90% sure she met Nicole through Hyo cos in her thank yous and even when generally speaking, Nicole mentions Hyoyeon first. Fany and Nicole seem close because they can communicate in English but with Hyo, Nicole seems to see her as a sister figure and because of pictures and stuff, I get the impression that they are closer (if I remember correctly in the last album Nicole thanked Hyo,Sunny and Seohyun)
With 2PM's Junsu too, Hyo's name is always first in the list..so I'm thinking he knew her first (kind of a stretch I know,haha but I tend to do that too..)
The lot of them hanging out together, must be crazy.. Looking at pictures of them-Hyo seems a lot more hiphoppy(like you said) and a little badass like the picture with Min's butt or her giving the middle finger.haha
Just by looking at them-Hyo/Min/Nicole/Junsu/Gina Choi/Park Ki Jun << they don't conform to the cookie cutter Korean look or style!
Winners: although she may not drop by the school, it seems like she's still in touch with many of her dance oppas so she should just ask them all to help her out with a special stage :)
Vocal trainer..yeah I hope she still has one.like u said, someone needs to help her develop and fine tune that unique lower register tones. Seriously its criminal that HyoRi's low voices aren't utilized more!

Hrm. This just makes me realize I have no idea about Min's and Nicole's casting/audition histories. But did Min's English come before her exportation to the US? In the 2007 vid, Min's English is heavily accented. I've also noticed that Nicole seems to always mention Hyo first when she talks about her friends among SNSD.
How many times has Junsu mentioned Hyo?
Imagining all of them hanging out together seems like a fun time. =D All the English speakers would make fun of Hyo for her attempts at English. And then they probably teach her all the English bad words, lol.

Min's English- yeah I think* she learned full fledged english in the States but since she went to school there, she must've known a fair amount maybe? Not sure though cos I only know Hyo-related Min things.sorry.
Junsu's mentioned Hyo in two mini albums. Ooh i should check if their latest one had any Thanks to section.
2nd album- I think he said something like "Hyoyeonnie who always treats me well".. I always think of that one fancam where he came up behind her and whispered "congrats" after they won one of the weekly music shows! If only Hyo had acknowledged him!!
HyoTae.. yeah that'll probably always be a dream like many things to do with HYo.. :( But to make me feel better there was a HyoSun line in Dear Mom and I think it sounded really pretty!

Aw, Junsu. I think the latest album did have a Thanks To section. I think I saw an article where the parts where 2PM talked about Jaebeom in their messages were translated. I felt sad for Junsu too when Hyo was too busy being all "YAY!" to notice him trying to give her his congrats.
HyoSun is one of the vocal pairings they seem to like (next to SeoHyo)--they had Hyo follow Sunny in the alternating lines in "Boyfriend," too, right? Sunny can do high and low; her high range isn't as high as the other sopranos but she has great technique? I like the timber of her voice.
