f(ChinChin) = musing on names
TaeYeon called Krystal "SooJung" during f(x)'s appearance on ChinChin (Soshi Sub's version). She quickly corrected herself, saying she wasn't meant to call Krystal by her Korean name, but that makes me wonder if Jessica went by her Korean name before debuting. I'd assumed Sica hadn't since she'd come from the States and had attended a foreign high school while in Korea but the way "SooJung" just naturally popped out of TaeYeon's mouth made me wonder if Jessica had been SooYeon* to everyone in SM. Then again, no one fumbled with "Jessica" around the time of SNSD's debut like they did with "SeoHyun"--YuRi and Jessica blurted out JooHyun instead of Seobaby's stage name at least once (and did Fany call her JooHyun recently on a radio show?). Surprisingly, no one stumbled with "Tiffany" either. Although the shortened "Fany" could be applied to Tiffany's actual American name Stephanie as well, no? So maybe that's not so surprising. "Sunny" might not have been a problem because the members had known SoonKyu for the least amount of time before debut, whereas with Seo JooHyun, for example, she'd been "JooHyun" to them for years and years. In this appearance you can see f(x) leader Victoria call Luna by her Korean name, so they aren't yet comfortable with their stage names either.
Anyway, I saw that f(x)'s ChinChin appearance had been subbed and became curious to see how TaeYeon would interact with them. You can tell the members that she's more familiar with--Krystal, Luna, Sulli--dating back to living in the same dorm with Sulli pre-debut (Sulli must have been crazy young!). I thought it was interesting that the girls gave their Western ages and that there's a trilingual form of communication going on, with Krystal helping out Amber in English with the Korean and Amber helping out Victoria in Mandarin. I also wonder how TaeYeon addresses Victoria in private since Victoria is older than she is, though TaeYeon is Victoria's sunbae. I guess that would depend on how close they are.
*I am amused by the coincidence that Jung SooYeon has so far roomed with members that share pieces of her Korean name, HyoYeon and SooYoung. Also coincidentally, they're the SNSD members she's known the longest. If she continues this trend, she'll have to room with YuRi next? Or YoonA?
