trying to figure out what I'm doing with my life (again). had a long but fruitful talk with adviser yesterday, at the end of which I decided that I won't go straight to a PhD program after finishing my MS next May. I don't feel ready right now: my research just started, I just formed my committee, yadda yadda. on the other hand, if I apply next year or the year after, I'll hopefully have more connections, possibly some field / museum / teaching experience, and (::crosses fingers::) at least one published paper.
however, this decision then demands the question: what will I do next year? well. the priority is to get a job that is in some way related to ecology / paleontology / zoology / evolutionary biology. (I'm versatile, kind of.) it'd be best if the position were in California; though, to be honest, if I weren't thinking about family, I'd widen my range to the entire US and even beyond. maybe I still will.
the following places are hot-spots where I have at least a couple friends / acquaintances. I think I'll expand my scope to these places.
- Berkeley / San Francisco
- Irvine / Los Angeles
- Ann Arbor / Detroit
- San Diego
- New York
- Chicago
- Seattle
- DC
there are probably more cities than that, but it's 1:30am and I'm waking up early to teach at 9am tomorrow, so. the end.
