Freedom Writers

I was watching Freedom Writers yesterday, and...

it seemed to me that the scene when he walks out on her was very similar to the finale when he kinda just gave up on Mer. Did anyone else notice that? Or was it just me and because it was him it automatically reminded me of her?

I agree. I was so dissapointed. I hope he isn't that big of a prick in real life! He is a heart-breaker that McDreamy...

Gave up on Mer? I'm pretty sure she's the one who dumped him.

I hate it when people go blaming Meredith. Derek had lied to her from the beginning, and then when Meredith asked him to make a choice between her and Addison, he refused. She spent the next several months trying to recover from this while, at the same time, seeing him every day in the hospital. Naturally, Meredith was able to rely on her friends during this time, while Derek just gave her lovesick puppy glances without ever doing anything. Finally, he divorces Addison but tells Meredith to choose Finn. Even when Meredith says that the relationship with the vet is over, Derek still takes his sweet time to talk to her about starting the relationship. Then, as soon as they get back together, Derek starts pressuring her to have sex with him, and yells at her when she keeps Cristina's secret about Burke's tremor, even going to far as to blame her for it. Then he walks out on her because she mentioned to Mark that thre's still an opening for the position of Chief. Finally, her mother dies after having a lucid day and, in that time ( ... )

I completely agree, and, in fact, said the same thing in another post.

True, Derek has done some shitty things. But I was speaking in terms of just the season finale-- she was the one who left him.

Yeah, it just makes me laugh how he was in the movie for about 10 minutes, and his face was on all the movie posters. It was like a way to get all the GA fans to watch. "Look, it's a McDreamy movie!" Big disappointment to some, I imagine.

PD does a good job at the selfish ass-hole role.

But yeah, the movie was amazing.

I'm actually one of the few that understood why Scott (or Patrick in Freedom Writers) did what he did and said what he said. Hilary Swanks character is so inspiring in that movie, that's true, but she also seems to be a bit obsessed with changing people and tries to do it to her husband. She tells people at a party that he's an architect when he's not, and it upsets him. When he is talking to her he says something along the lines of he wants to be happy being who he is, he doesn't want to know that because he is the way he is she is always wanting to change him. Yes, I'll admit that he does it in a bit of an asshole-ish way, but can you imagine how you would feel if your significant other was never around (he actually pushes her away long before the end of the relationship, much like Meredith does to Derek on the show...hmmm funny!) and when they actually did spend time with you, you felt like you were a disappointment? He was right in saying that if she had to choose between her students and him she would choose her students ( ... )
