I haven't read any episode recaps yet because I didn't want to cloud my own thoughts before I got to writing, but yeah, this season has been breaking my spirit a little. I miss seasons 1-4 when I feel like Meredith and Derek got lots of time. Since then, I feel like they've been given less and less in the interest of serving other characters, for whom I frankly I do not care all that much. I hang around for the original characters at this point.

That being said, I'm so glad you took the time to give this a chance! It makes me happy when fans are saying that this is what they want to happen. We'll definitely get more into Derek in the next part and beyond, but I feel like his fear that Meredith will disappear in front of him (in one way or another) is a huge motivator for his behavior. I think he had noble intentions to try to cure Alzheimer's, certainly, but I also think he was scared out of his mind that Meredith might get this disease and he could lose her. Plus, he has that nasty tendency to lash out when he gets angry or loses control over something, so no wonder he was pissed as hell about this trial.

I was going back and forth as to whether Meredith would be like "Well, I'll show you" or if she would be like "Maybe he's right." In the end I went for a little of both. She's struggled for so long about her mother and her influence on her life; it has to be tough to think that Derek might think those things too.

Anyway, thanks so much again for reading! I am working on more and I hope the rest doesn't disappoint!
