Short Story:
Met a european lawyer here, a spainard, who was telling me that he could go anywhere in the EU and practice, and how this was such a great thing, because in Spain, one does not have to take a bar exam to be a lawyer in Spain. Therefore he was telling me that there was this huge influx of Spanish lawyers going all over the EU.
I made the comment back - "Well yes, but they have to register with the local bar, and they can't use the local title. They have to use Abogado, to make sure people know that they are a Spanish lawyer, as well as to protect the local standards of law practice."
He replies - "Oh no, thats not true, I can use whatever I want, and they can't stop me because of the Free movement of Persons and Services."
I don't really say anymore at this point, as I don't wanna get into a bitching match with a lawyer from the EU or be rude. But I emailed my professor who taught me Common Market for the EU over the past two days, explaining the story to him. The short of it is. I'm right, He's wrong. Even says it all in the freaking Directive. It makes me feel all fuzzy and cuddly inside.
