Lately, I've been working on trying to break from the routine that has become my life.

Usually my life has been going like the following:

Weekdays:
  • Morning to Early Evening: Work
  • Evening: Go home, cook dinner, watch TV / putter around on the computer, go to sleep

I've got that same bad habit of automatically saying "No" to people. One of my friends actually got annoyed with me and mocked me over the phone last weekend for doing that.

Last Friday night, I told him that the reason I didn't want to drive down the next morning to meet some of his friends who play magic was because I needed to run some errands, clean up my apartment, and work on my resume. His answer to that was the following:

"Wait a second. Let me get this straight. You're declining an invitation to hang out, have some fun, and meet new people... to go work your RESUME!!!??? That's pretty lame. At least if you were hanging out with a friend or going on a date I would understand, but a RESUME???!! "

Afterward, I realized that I WAS being lame. So I reconsidered, called him up the next morning, and accepted his invitation.

Which turned out well because I did have a good time and I met a really good group of people.

Of course if things turned out poorly, I suppose I'd have another thing to make fun of him for... ala "Hey is this going to be like the time you told me we'd only be there for a few hours and we ended up leaving at midnight?"

I guess I should accept more of those sorts of invitations. At the worst case, there's always a amusing anecdote to tell later.
