Dark Side of the Moon

I have 3 versions of "Dark Side of the Moon". The original, by Pink Floyd, I've had in different forms over the years, starting with the tape made from a vinyl LP my cousin's husband gave me. It's been a great thing to listen to for a long time.

Some years ago, I heard a few songs from "Dub Side of the Moon", by Easy Star All-Stars. It wasn't until last year that I bought the CD, and it too has been good to listen to.

The third version is by Stardeath and White Dwarfs, plus the Flaming Lips. The former group headed by the nephew of Wayne Coyne of the Lips. It is an awesome CD. "Breathe", in Floyd's version, has a melancholy feel. A sense of sadness over a missed-out life. The reggae version is more rastafarian, less sad. The new version has a more bitter and angry feel to it. It has this great repeating base line which just hooks itself into you, the rest of the music is captures that bitter feeling, until Wayne sings. His singing in this is affectless, almost robotic. Part of me thinks that is what gives the overall feeling of anger to the song. Overall, a great choice. Sara's mom gave me the iTunes certificate which allowed me to get the album.
