Subaru in 30 days?

May 27, 2013 11:12

As the title says I have to build a Subaru in 30 days.  I will not register the Pug again, this is it and I have limited time to do things.  I still have normal work (and until mom gets her ankle better I have her work too)  and other things cooking but I have until July to get a new car built.

Here is the deal.  I got this....

Nice little 94 Legacy wagon.  It runs well engine wise but the transmission is quite ruined and the interior... well they stored trash in it for 3 years.  So lets just say it is gross.   I would have  cleaned the interior and put my spare transmission in it and then set it up like the Burgundy wagon for auto cross/hard mountain road driving.   But the interior is just.. WOW I mean I am about to tear it out today to get to the wiring harness to split it down to just engine management stuff.  But I am going to wear my hazmat suit to do it.   It is THAT gross.   Lets just say that that perfectly clean bodied legacy is about to loose it's engine and be drawn and quartered.

I am going to put the engine into a 90 Loyale (Leone 3rd gen to us subaru nuts) wagon that I do not have a picture of yet.   I will get one Wednesday or when it gets to the house.  It is a solid car, but it needs interior as well.  Mainly carpet, the seats and dash are surprisingly good.  And it has the two options I need in a Leone.  Air Con and no rust.  But there is more to this because the trans in it is a SR (Single Range)  4x box.

So here is the deal.  I have to source a DR (Duel Range) 5 speed box with rear end, interior trim, shift linkage.  Engine adaptor, clutch stuff.  (Frankenclutch) 4 inch SJR lift, set of General Grabber AT 27x8.50x14 tires.  A set of five of them of course.  Carpet, a spare set of rack rods so I can correct the suspension geometry by lengthening them after the lift is installed.. and some other bits and bobs.  Pancake fans (Gonna be tight with the larger engine and air con).   And then misc stuff like surface and drill out the flywheel, a set of RX or XT6 rear disk brakes and just the list continues on.  But the above stuff is the mandatory.

So here is the other deal.

If you have ever wanted a LeMons racer, I got one for you.  The Pug 505 STi is up for grabs for free IF the following conditions are met.
1) The car comes with no wheels and tires.   (I need them for the Subaru)
2) The car has to be raced in the 2013/2014 season for at least two races.
3) Clear title and bill of sale will be provided. (New Mexico title)
4) I must be provided with one of these packages for you to get the car
    a) DR 5 speed transmission with rear end, crossmember, driveline, interior trim, and linkages.
    b) SJR 4 inch lift kit
    c) SJR adaptor plate WITH the hardware
    d) Complete and really good 3rd gen leone wagon interior in the sort of brown/gray
    e) Snorkel kit that will fit said Leone that looks nice
    f)  Custom bumpers that are steel and have mount up's for a winch in front and a spare swing out tire in back.
    g) 5000lb rated winch
    h) Set of 5 General Grabber AT 27x8.5.14 inch tires that are really really good or almost new

Please note to get the Pug only one item (a through h) needs to be given.  BUT if two teams happen to want the car the team with the most packages wins.   Not sure if this will keep ya in the under 500 dollar rule and if the judges will assign penalty laps for horse trading like this.  But you are on your on in that regard!

More info on the pug.
456,000 Miles.  Original engine.  Timing chain at 258,000.  Has new front and 1 rear wheel bearing as of 3 years ago.  Decent brakes.  Runs and drives.  (I just did a 3000+ mile round about from Benton CA to Denver CO to Austin TX back to Benton CA.  A full service history.  (I am the third owner and the car is quite well documented and has even been featured on TTAC, The truth about cars).  Original Clutch, the power steering leaks (High pressure hose).  Shift linkage is of butter churn consistency (Rods are shot).  Air Con works.  Power windows all work.  It even drives decently enough, if not slow as molasses.  But if you drive it like a normal sane person you should be able to get quite a few laps out of it before something goes boom.   More details.

1985 Peugeot 505 STi Series I (old style interior)
456,000 Miles.  (On the 3rd speedo, it just broke -again-)
2 Litre XN6 push rod engine with Bosch CIS-E Injection that has been gone through.  (New pumps and accumulator at 300,000 miles.)
5 speed trans
4.11 rear end with limited slip
4 wheel disk brakes
Factory Struts
Power everything
Air Con
Clean paperwork
I bought the car for 110 bucks in 2009 and driven it since...
Leaks oil a little from the valve cover (Comes with a new gasket!)
Power steering leaks.
Electrical all works!
Comes with my condolences!
BRING WHEELS AND TIRES.  It does NOT come with any!
Has 1/4 of a tank of fuel!  Hell that has to be worth 20 bucks!

If you are interested just post a note here or email me at gmail.  (User name is easy enough right)

If you get the car I want updates of course!  (Not sure if you can pull a IoE award with it but perhaps the judges will feel sorry for you.   Definite contender for a I got screwed award or perhaps a Heroic Fix award.)

I will also allow any team to pick parts off the Legacy donor all they want for the princely sum of 1 dollar per part. (Not including wheels and tires.  Need those to move the carcase around)  Want a door with glass.. a buck.  Want the back hatch .. a buck.  Want that hard to find relay I am not going to use.... a buck.  Nuff said.  Discount for buy 10 parts get the 11th one free!

Let me know!
