If you do a search on a celebrity with fairly common first and last names you get mostly hits related to that person. After the first couple of pages you will start getting genealogy references and assorted websites and resumes of people with the same name. If the search name is more uncommon you generally find only pages related to the celebrity. So, what kind of results do you get when you enter non-celebrity names into a search engine?
A few days ago I entered my own name in a web search engine just to see what would come up. The first few entries had nothing to do with me, but about 90% of the entries were from where I had posted to websites. The other 10% seemed to be about lawsuits with which I am thankfully uninvolved.
I searched on my buddy Sean's name but within the first few pages did not find anything related to him. There is a water polo player in CA by the same name who apparently plays pretty well though.
My friend Meighan's name on the other hand was unique. Her first and last name are not that uncommon. When put together though the only entries that came up were about her.
My friend Kurt's name had some interesting results. A person of the same name is well known for designing levels/mods for Quake. Another has a network security consulting business. Coincidentally Kurt was an avid Quake gamer and a big part of Kurt's job is network security. About 20% of the entries were about Kurt, but it was strange how the other people with the same name seemed so similar.
Oh, well. I've just been killing time while waiting for a virus scanner to run on another computer. I wish people would quit writing those things. It's going to be a while yet, but I've carried this about as far as I can. What kind of results do you get?
