Last weekend was really a mixed-bag all the way around. I had decided earlier in the week to go to AWA in Atlanta for the weekend. On Friday, it occurred to me that it was about time to email muffle1969 about when her band would be coming to town (i.e. LaGrange) next. Browsing through LJ though a post by dprescott mentioned they were coming the same weekend :(

So, went to AWA and had a pretty good time. Instead of getting a room I crashed with my good friend Sean (aka conal_cerna) and while at the con I ran into our mutual good friend Doug! (Doug, btw, is an excellent bartender--especially if you like the frozen type drinks.) He tells me he's going to have a room party *yeah!*, but not sure when or where. He also tells me Sean is going to be at the con the following day. Would have thought Sean would have mentioned it?

Get to Sean's about 1 am on Saturday. Tell him about running into Doug and ask who he's going to the con with (since Doug mentioned he would be accompanying a friend). Turns out another friend, Meighan raven6179, was supposed to take her sister to AWA on Saturday. It was looking like there would be more friends at the con than I had counted on :) (especially since none of them were really interested in the con).

Saturday started on a down note. Meighan called to cancel while Sean and I were at breakfast :( Was still having a reasonably good time by myself at the con though. Had to leave the for a few hours to participate in a MechWarrior tournament at the sports card shop in Newnan. On the return trip picked up Sean for dinner figuring we would hear from Doug about the party. Finally contacted Doug, who had decided the con crowd was too young to really make one of his parties worthwhile (and I coud see his point). :(

I did, however, get sent to a party by Joe, who runs the con suite at Dragon Con. There I talked with James and Anne. They are a couple who do lots of costuming at conventions of which I have taken many pictures. It was nice to meet the people 'behind' the costumes.

Over the last few days I've found that a few other friends normally attend AWA but were not able to make it this year. Like they say, "Timing is everything". Even though I had fun, it was a weekend full of little disappointments (including breaking the flash on my camera).

Pros: anime, Fred Gallagher, costumes, nice-looking women (in costumes), made new friends
Cons: no Marva & co., no Meighan, no Sean-commentary on AWA con-goers, no "Doug's party"

Well, if anyone reads this, thanx for listening... >>>-----> MikeO
