recs! Angel, The Authority, Firefly, Highlander, Pern, Stargate

stWow, it's been awhile. I have not been holding up my end of the Goblin team. However, I have saved up numerous recs of all sorts.

Angel
Wesley's Liberal Guilt by Jessica Harris. Wesley/Gunn. Wesley is having liberal guilt issues. And it's kind of amusing, really.
Inklings by James. Wesley/Gunn. Author summary: " Wesley and the others are adjusting to life without Angel after being fired. Sometimes in unexpected ways." I would also add that plastic swords are involved. And who can resist that?

The Authority
You Can't Have Everything by Penknife. Apollo/Midnighter. Author summary: "Being on the run is hard, but it beats the alternatives." A nice little character piece, spot-on dialogue, and (canonical!) gay superheroes in love. This is a good fandom.
Seriously, check out the first graphic novel, Relentless, written by Warren Ellis. It's fun! (anyone want to talk comics? Please comment. I do not have enough people to talk comics with.)
Tourniquet by Brighid. A story about the Doctor, Jeroen, and what he thinks and feels. Brighid is always amazing, and here she really captures Jeroen and why he is the way he is. Sad and beautiful.

Firefly
Delicacies by Samantha. A story about the things Simon and Inara have in common. This is a friendship story that does justice to the complex positions of both characters.
The Habits of a Lifetime by Eleanor K. A Book piece. Book is a difficult character, and I think Eleanor does a good job of getting his voice, and exploring a likely background for him.
Different for Girls by Mosca. Zoe/Wash, but also about interaction between Zoe and Kaylee. Author summary: "Zoe teaches Kaylee how to tie stronger knots."
Vignettes by Skripka. Zoe/Wash. I love Zoe and Wash, and these are sweet little vignettes.

Highlander
Fugue 68 by Jay Tryfanstone. A short DM/M piece. Methos and marriage and time.
Alien Corn by Jay Tryfanstone. A strange, complicated, post-apocalyptic sort of DM/M piece.

Pern
(Yes, you read that right)
A Special Gift by Miss Murchison. Menolly/Audiva femslash written for yuletide. Sweet! I want more Pern slash... (Yes, I am well aware of the author's opinions on same. That's partly *why* I want more. Bwahahahah.)

Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis).

So I haven't actually seen much of either show (and originally avoided them because I'd seen the movie, which was, well, teh suck), but there was lots of fic by authors whose work in other fandoms I adore, and I could resist no longer. If you're heavily into these fandoms, these recs might all be things you've seen. But hey, you could tell me what I'm missing...

So I read some things, and then wandered over to Crack Van for their helpful fandom introductions--SG-1 summary and pictures Atlantis summary and pictures-- and thus became hooked. Dammit. I've since seen the pilots and some random bits of both shows, and plan to see more given the opportunity. It seems to be fun science fictiony crack, albeit cheesy (it's good cheese!). Though it might be the espresso talking (who needs drugs? I have science fiction and caffeine!), but I really liked the Atlantis pilot-- I thought it really captured the sense of wonder appropriate to exploring another galaxy, as well as how real people might react to it. I enjoy the main characters on both shows, especially since they're snarky. I like snark. I'm going to attempt to get hold of more of these shows when I have time in a couple of months, but in the meantime, anyone want to answer random questions? Comment? Anyway, a few of the many lovely things I've read...
As I've said, I like anything Brighid writes. Ditto Destina and Shalott and Quercus, who's written many plotty, intriguing SG-1 fics (and since many of them are on worlds she's made up, I didn't have too much trouble following things after I'd figured out some of the basic character and canon stuff). She's invented some rich and interesting cultures for the team to interact with (and seems to have done her homework on the archaeology and anthropology fronts, which I really appreciate, having suffered through a number of strange Sentinel fics, and some SG-1 fic or other which thoroughly abused and misused the word "ethnography." Sigh.). I particularly recommend The Bhadra Trilogy.

The previous authors mostly write Jack/Daniel, though there's some other relationships here and there, as well as some Atlantis fic.

Some more recent specific story recs:
The Secret Life of Scientists by Julad. Julad is always fun, and this is the first Atlantis story I read. It got me hooked because of the geek love and the mysteries and excitement of Atlantis (and the realistic look at how people might approach it). McKay/Zelenka.
Lost in Space by Torch. Atlantis. McKay/Sheppard. torch is writing in this fandom too? Clearly, Atlantis is where it's at. This piece is fun and creative.

Um, that's all for now. I probably won't do too many recs in these fandoms for awhile, since I don't really know them or the canon well enough to find good things that everyone and their cousin hasn't read or rec'd already.

Good night. Hm, maybe I should cut back on the caffeine...
