Yesterday, I wrote 1,574 words on Chapter Three of Red Delicious and reached The End of the chapter. And the manuscript passed the 100 page mark. Chapter Three actually came out rather long, and I'm considering looking at splitting it somewhere. Frankly, I've always approached chapters as these somewhat arbitrary things that I put into books because people expect books to have chapters, to be presented in convenient (if illogical) chunks. In fact, I'm considering removing most of the chapter divisions from
The Drowning Girl: A Memoir and all of them from
The Red Tree for the
Centipede Press editions. Neither Imp nor Sarah would have been keeping their journals in chapter format. One can argue Imp was writing something more than a journal, but Sarah was just...typing.
Oh. Wow. I almost forgot. No, really. That's weird.
The Drowning Girl: A Memoir has been
nominated for a Bram Stoker Award ("SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT IN A NOVEL"). Could I finally get my little house this year?
Today, I'll be putting together
Sirenia Digest #86, so that it can go out to subscribers this evening. The issue will include the new piece - which isn't called "Forests of the Night"* - and Chapter One of Fay Grimmer. The latter, for those late coming to the party, is the novel that I wrote as a sequel to
Blood Oranges. The novel I finished, delivered to my publisher, then withdrew because I felt it wasn't the best I could do, so...I volunteered to write a second, replacement sequel. But Fay Grimmer is the stillborn original. And it will likely never see print, but enough
Sirenia Digest readers expressed interest that I've decided to serialize the book in issues #86-#93. If you wanna read it, this is where it will be.
And tomorrow, or the next day, once the digest is put to bed, I have to write Chapter Seven of Alabaster: Boxcar Tales.
Please have a look at
the current eBay auctions. Thanks.
We've begun Season Two of A Game of Thrones, and I'm loving it even more than Season One. Two episodes last night. Then some RP in The Secret World, which had some very good moments, but also some bumps. One especially annoying and bizarre bump was the two douchebags who appeared in the Crusades, dressed in thawb and agal, and proceeded to act out a racist Islamic caricature. When people ignored that, they returned in bright yellow CDC hazmat suits. Then we took the RP elsewhere. Fortunately, I pretty much never see this disruptive, "RP LOL," asinine crap in TSW.
