I'm always, always going to have trouble with the apparent need for MMOs to infect their stories and worlds with silliness. An especial sort of humor that is just that: silliness. Well, but Dinosaurs was a Flintstones-style present-day-suburbs-in-the-past comedy anyhow, so I don't think Refrigerator Day would have been out of character for the show. As I understand it, the sort of thing greygirlbeast complains of is more like if Game of Thrones had a Refrigerator Day episode.

(Disclosure -- Father Christmas in Narnia never bothered me, for some reason -- whereas it always irritates me that the characters in Dr. Strangelove all have wacky names like Bat Guano, when the scenario itself is grimly comedic but perfectly possible.)

Bingo.

But Dr. Strangelove is a black comedy, and a semi-absurdist one at that. So, such a thing isn't out of place. Also, "Bat" was a nickname.
