Yesterday, anaisembraced reminded me of a quote from one of Anaïs Nin's published diaries (1931-1934). It manages to say much more eloquently what I was trying to say yesterday about my need for a public persona

"There were always in me, two women at least, one woman desperate and bewildered, who felt she was drowning and another who would leap into a scene, as upon a stage, conceal her true emotions because they were weaknesses, helplessness, despair, and present to the world only a smile, an eagerness, curiosity, enthusiasm, interest."
If that isn't me, I don't know what is.
I hate the things that Reeves has said, with a straight face, about making the story more accessible for Americans. I hate that he's gutting the novel and original film's gender issues by simply making Eli a genetic female. How can that not come across as pandering to homophobic and transphobic filmgoers?
I don't understand why Americans get outraged at inane, stupid crap, and don't get outraged when someone believes they're too bigoted, hateful, and empty-headed to handle the concept of gender identity. Maybe the whole culture really is just a pathetic, embarrassing shit-stain on the planet's surface that is under the illusion it's the greatest thing ever.
Some smart, moving, exquisite rp in Insilico last night. Lately, my rp has involved very few people, which I have found, through trail and error, to be the best approach. Two people is ideal. Four is usually my limit for a scene. More than that, there's too much chaos. This story began back in January and February, with a long hiatus from April into July. At this point, it's mostly the story of two people, one of whom happens to be an android. It's like the middle of a good sf novel, one for which I know I'll never get to read the beginning or ending (which makes it rather like a dream). It demonstrates the marvel that Second Life can be, but almost never manages to be. Anyway, my thanks to Fifth and Molly.
You are welcome. I feel the same way about scenes. More than three people is too much. I dislike RP "events" for that reason. It just becomes a bunch of people vying for attention over a virtual crowd, and the text scroll is nearly unreadable in some cases.
It's a grand quote for those of us with crowds inside.

Well, partly, I think, because Americans, as a whole, are too bigoted, hateful, and empty-headed to handle the concept of gender identity. At least with diversity and fluidity in gender. It's something they'd rather not think about, so they're not going to be offended by not having to deal with the fact that in Låt den rätte komma in we have to accept that Eli gender is a very complex and disturbing subject.

And I'm very glad to hear that.

There's just almost no way, in those scenes, for everyone to be on the same page storywise, or to be rping at the same level, or have the same feelings about staying ic, and so forth. A catastrophically awful multi-person scene led to my leaving IS back in April, and now I just avoid them. I've only done a very few good scenes with a large number of players in the 3+ years I've been in SL. We're best off telling our little personal stories, and when they happen to intersect, fine.
