I can't reconcile that.

That's probably because you're actually thinking about it, and, in truth, this is Medieval bullshit that never made any sense. It was never meant to be questioned.

That is because Christianity is not a religion, per se, but rather a primitive form of mind control.

Sometimes, primitive forms survive because they're so damned efficient.

I seldom ever discuss this.

It has this thing built into, at the most fundamental level, that dissuades you from discussing these (to me obvious) flaws.

That is the linear nature of the judeo-christian-islamic troika and its rejection of the cyclic nature of the multiverse. With each generation, our enate instinct is to continue the battle against the inevitability of entropy and to establish a greater level of control over forces that threaten us. However, that instinct leads to shared knowledge, and that latter, as we know, threatens those who historically held power by promoting fear based in ignorance. Entropy in the form of dissonance is the ally of western religion.

It seems cruel to be created to wonder and then required not to and threatened with punishment if we cannot/do not comply.

"He" isn't just a jealous god. He's clearly also a sadistic one. It's obvious from the bait-and-switch nature of the human consciousness "he" fashioned. I mean, "he" could have done it differently...
