Technically, this is a day off. But here I am, typing. Later, we're heading out to see The Prestige, about which I am very excited.

I wrote another 1,367 words and finished "The Ammonite Violin (Murder Ballad No. 4)" late yesterday. It still needs a little tweaking, which I'll do on Monday. Or Sunday, whenever we do the read-through. I e-mailed it away to Vince, and also to mellawyrden, who has training as luthier (violin-maker) and will be fact-checking for me on this one. Wanna read it? Just subscribe to Sirenia Digest. There was a bunch of work that wasn't exactly writing, the busyness of writing, and I didn't finish until about nine p.m.

Oh, and the page proofs for Tales from the Woeful Platypus came in from Subterranean Press yesterday.

Quick reminder: the new e-mail address is greygirlbeast(at)gmail(dot)com. I am no longer checking the old dotMac account on anything like a regular basis. I checked in there yesterday for the first time in a couple of months, deleted a mountain of spam, and found two or thre e-mails I wish I'd seen a lot sooner. So, once more, if you wish to write me, please do so via greygirlbeast(at)gmail(dot)com, not via lowredmail(at)mac(dot)com. Thanks.

Richard Kirk (illustrator for Tales of Pain and Wonder, Wrong Things, From Weird and Distant Shores, and To Charles Fort, With Love, along with works by China Miéville and Clive Barker) will be participating in an upcoming group show at Arcanum in NYC.

By the way, if you want to get Daughter of Hounds supercheap, go to Buy.com, pre-order the book for $10.64, get another $20 of merchandise, and check out using Google Checkout. Through October 31st, Buy.com is offering $10 off a $30 purchase if you use Google Checkout. And the discount is renewable, so if you have, say, $300 worth of stuff you want, you can break the order into $30 chunks and save $10 each time, with free shipping on most items in the US.

Here's the Buy.com page for Daughter of Hounds, and I suppose I should also mention that they have the new paperback of Threshold for only $6.20 and the regular hardback of Tales from the Woeful Platypus for just $12.92.

I've heard that Guillermo del Toro is still talking about making At the Mountains of Madness. I can only hope...

Last night, after dinner, my first walk in three days, and a hot bath, I tried to watch something called Night Feeders (2006) that had come in from the Netflix que. But it was awful. Really frelling awful. Unwatchably awful. Near as I can tell, some bright soul decided to make an sf film aimed at rednecks. After about 20 minutes, I gave up and watched an ep of Invader Zim and four more eps from Season One of Futurama. If I owned a microwave oven, I'd pop Night Feeders in for four or five seconds before putting it back in the mail.

Right. This is a day off. Time to finish my coffee and find some clothes. The platypus can get along without me for a day or two (or three).

e-mail, tftwp, threshold, sirenia, days off, doh
