Day 6 (2025 A.D.)

Jan 06, 2025 21:43

The irony of a peaceful transition of power, back to the Horror Clown. Of course, setting aside the far Left, it's what I would expect of the Democratic Party. It's what I would have expected of the Republican Party until...whatever the fuck has happened.

But it's done.

I feel as if there are a lot of people coming to 2025 with the attitude that, well, we lived through this once before, we'll do it again. But Trump II will not be Trump I. Not even close. Whole different beast. Men and women who put to shame my paltry comprehension of politics have made this clear, and I trust them. This is not teetering at the edge of the precipice; this is tumbling over the edge. This is Project 2025. The possibility that America will attack...anyone...because that nation has something Trump or whoever wants, consequences and morality be damned. This is, possibly, World War II without the Allies.

Fuck it. Mostly, I pity people who are unfortunate enough to be young in this disaster.

Let's call it Dark Age 2.0.

----

A busy day today. For one, I got an offer from Japan for a Japanese edition of The Drowning Girl. A very modest offer, a months rent and a couple of bills, but an offer all the same. Of course I said yes. And there's not been an Asian edition before this. What else? Lots of work on the Whynot Bashi sample. Late this week or early next week I'll be dropping by McWane long enough to swap this finished sample for a fresh batch of sediment, likely switching back to the Red Hot Truck Stop material. Also, after talking with Andy Bowman at the State Geological Survey, I was able to finish the geology portion of TP3 (turtle paper 3), a discussion of of the lithology and dating via microfossils of the site where our holotype skull was found in 1976 and 1977. It's a beautiful specimen. Switching back to MP2 (mosasaur paper 2), I spoke with Adiel at the State Museum to get a new catalog number for one of our specimen's in that study. And, speaking of MP2, much of yesterday was spent preparing myself to write, again, about plioplatecarpine intercranial morphology. And I drew a whole bunch more monster doodles for them who have been kind enough to buy books and tie dye from the Dreaming Squid Sundry shop. There's one I've yet to draw; I've promised someone a tardigrade, though I have never drawn a tardigrade.

I'm not going to get into the doctor stuff.

It sorta snowed for about fifteen minutes. See photo below. Bitterly cold weather. Our high today was 52F before sunrise. By sunset we were below freezing, with a windchill of about 18F.

I am reminded now that seasons Seven and Eight of Game of Thrones is some of the best television there's ever been.

Later Tater Beans,
Aunt Beast
