"Despite everything you did to her, she was magnificent!"

A cloudy morning, but the day cleared. Our high was 93.9F, with a heat index of 102F.

I hardly slept last night. But I managed to make my 2:30 meeting at McWane, to get some sediment samples off specimens involved in MP2. One of the investigators, our geologist, is analysing them for calcareous nanoplankton to help date the specimens with more accuracy. It was very good to to talk to Jun. I'd not been in since early June.

Tonight we finally saw George Miller's Furiosa (2024). I am such a great admirer if Fury Road, which this is not, which this was not meant to be. Is it as good. I'm not sure I'm the person to ask. It was in many ways a different sort of movie, and I do think it was a very good movie. But it has a different feel compared to its predecessor, which was basically two long chase sequences. This one's five chapters (I think) following Furiosa from her kidnapping to her defeat of the man who stole her. That would be Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth, and he steals the show. If I were to begin with complaints, and I do have some, I'd likely start with bringing the villains of the first film front and center. Immortan Joe is a lot less scary when you give him that much screentime. I think, in a lot of ways, it's a more traditional film. But whatever my complaints might be they do not explain the poor performance at the box office. Most critics seemed to have loved it, but for some reason, movie goers stayed away. Which is a shame, because now we will like not see Tom Hardy in Mad Max: The Wasteland.

I'm so fucking tired.
