The heat continues. Our high today was 91.9F, with a heat index of 99F. So, the sun icon remains.
Kinda high and listening to Peter Murphy and reminiscing about four year (plus) I lived on the on the north side of Red Mountain (
16th Avenue South, "Burt's Bohemian Bear Garden, December 1989-April 1994). Anyway...
How about a cover real? Here's the cover for Bright Dead Star, by
Lee Moyer:
I love this piece so much, having long admired the painting (actually a combination of photography and acrylics) done way back in 2010, so I am delighted we're getting to use it. Also, it was once used for a Weird Tales magazine cover which just happened to include an interview w/me (WT Winter 2010/2011). I have worked with Lee on several other books, including Confessions of a Five-Chambered Heart and the two SubPress best of CRK volumes.
Something I posted to Facebook and LJ today:
Forgive me a moment of sentimentality: As civility & sanity become inreasingly scarce & the world tilts farther towards anarchy & violence and dictatorships, more than ever I cherish science & the beautiful truths of mathematics, all my beloved mosasaurs & turtles, &, not least, the inexplicable magic of fiction writing. These things are my lifeline. They pull me from one day to the next. They rise above the evil, the hate, the tribalism driven by superstition and religion, the divisiveness, and wanton inhumane destruction that humans do. (It occurs to me, as often it has, there is something unsightly or undignified in my earnestness. But at sixty, I'm going to cut myself some fucking slack.)
Oh, and this evening Z and I went back to Second Life for the first time since...I'm not sure. I think we stopped when the Nocturne/VtM/WoD sim shuttered, and that must has been sometime in 2021. But I'm not sure. Z has a better memory, and he might recall.
PLEASE VISIT THE SHOP AND BUY SOMETHING! Thank you.
