"I'm never merciful, and knowledge is a fatal thing."

The hottest day so far It was already 85F at 10 a.m. The day's high was 100F, with a jeat index of 102. Fortunately, about 2 p.m. clouds rolled in from the west, an d while we have not yet gotten any rain, then temperature plummeted about twenty degrees in half an hour. Looks like we're only have mid nineties the rest of the week.

Today was spent making plotting decisions about THe Sun Always Shines on TV. I try to write more orgnaically than that, but this time I need to think ahead more than usual, though I only realized that belatedly. And also I spent time wading back into the next plioplatecarpine mosasaur paper, MP2, talking to MIke P. and some folks at the State Geological Survey.

I might have slept three hours last night.

Which may be why I posted the following to Facebook and Twitter: No matter how we might wish it were not true, we are all someone's villain. But something else may have put the thought in my head.

As I was in the mood for vampires, thanks to the gorgeous trailers to Roger Eggers' forthcoming remake of Nosheratu, the afternoon's movie was Neil Jordan's Byzantium (2012). Which may be why I posted the following to Facebook and Twitter: No matter how we might wish it were not true, we are all someone's villain. But something else may have put the thought in my head.

Last night we finished our rewatch of Deadwood, which I'd be tempted to say if the best thing that's ever been on TV, were it not for The Wire.

I finished Garrett M. Graff's UFO book (the sections on SETI are pretty good), then read, in need of solace, read Lovecraft's "The Shunned House" and "The Colour Out of Space." Oh, and another paper from JVP, "New insights into the origin of the Galápagos tortoises with a tip-dated analysis of Testudinidae."
