"Lot of ways this could go south, and only one where it doesn't."

So, my head got much better last night, and I dared o think this was ending, only to have it come roaring back this morning. And I think I'm just going to stop talking about the da,m thing; the attention just encourages it.

Sunny, and today's high was 93F. I spent the day modtly hiding in my cool, dim office, the blinds down.

Possibly my favorite headline ever: "The Mysterious Tyranny of Trendy Baby Names" (today's Washington Post).

I have finished Bret Easton Ellis' The Shards, and I found it to be one of those novels that skirts very near the edges of brilliance, but constantly blocks it's own advance. That penultimate chapter, where the whole thing devolves into a silly slasher film with a surprise ending, well, I wish that hadn't happened. But, it's not a bad book. Just a book that could easily have been much better. That it was designed to be presented one chapter at a time on Patreon cannot have helped.

The afternoon's film was Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). It's no Rogue One, but I still think it deserves far better treatment than it has received. I squinted painfully (id est "read") at "An unexpected early-diverging iguanodontian dinosaur (Ornithischia, Ornithopoda) from the Upper Jurassic of Portugal" in the new JVP.

Please, becaue bills must be paid, visit the shop. Thank you.
