Finally, a very, very good Godzilla movie.

And...so. Mostly rainy and nasty and chilly today. Our high was 82.9F.

I can't even much recall the day. And it just happened. I tried to work. I didn't do anything else, so surely I was trying to work most of the day.

1. (Reposted from yesterday): There is a very fine line, thin as a strand of spider silk, sharp as obsidian, dividing my mind from feeling nothing at all and feeling everything at once. I have chosen, when possible and to the degree I am able to choose, the former.

Tonight was watched Takashi Yamazaki's Godzilla Minus Zero (2023). And just wow. I had a feeling I'd love this, but I went in cautious. That the decision was made to have the film be at least as much about people as the monster, to look at how grim life was in Japan postwar, to leave Hiroshima and Nagasaki out and have that grimness follow largely from the constant conventional firebombing (which killed far more people)...it's just a fine film. The film knew its history and was not ashamed to show it. The SFX at superb, so I was very glad to see they led to an Oscar. I was also glad to see Yamazaki acknowledge obvious influences, from Jaws to Dunkirk. So, yes, finally a Godzilla film that I unreservedly loved. I have always been fond of Gojira (1954; the original Japanese, NOT the edited-down American version with Raymond Burr), but Godzilla Minus Zero beats it. I do not expect to ever again like a Godzilla film, so it's good to get one in there (and I have seen...well..most of them, seriously). I mean, this is a Godzilla movie that is a real movie.

Tomorrow is my first McWane day since March 4th.
