The Black and Gold

May 31, 2024 15:59

Overcast most of today. I hardly slept. Our high was 84F.

This will be short. The depression started the day as anger, but now it's "just" the crushing depression once more.

This is the final day of nornal operations at Birmingham-Southern College, one of the three I attended. I actually only attended the school one semester, to take two field classes on ecology from Dr. Dan Holliman (1932-2009). But I loved my time there. It as a fine school, and the way that the state legislature has allowed the school to die is criminal. Something like a college, you think it will be there long after you're gone (or I do), and that since of permanence make sthe world more bearable. So, today I mourn a fine college that has been lost to Alabama's backwards politics, that would rather build prisons than maintain colleges. Dan Holliman was one of my professors who encouraged my studies of reptiles.

Yeah. That's enough for today. Please visit the shop. Sales from the shop mean a LOT to us right now.

Later Tater Beans,
