"A vial of hope and a vial of pain, in the light they both look the same."

I woke at 6:345 a.m. to very cold, overcast skies. Lots of talk of snow flurries, though I never saw any. Our high was 45F.

My copies of Bradbury Weather and Living a Boy's Adventure Tale (below) arrived late yesterday, and, my god, they are handsome books, in no small part thanks to Bill at SubPress and the ghost of Richard Powers and the wonderful John Conway. Thank you all. There are still a few copies left at the publisher, but they are limited. Bradbury Weather is, by the way, my longest book to date, coming in at 794 pp. You get your money's worth, kittens. Basically, if you have the two SubPress "Best of" volumes (2011 & 2015), Houses Under the Sea: Mythos Tales (2018, 2019), and now Bradbury Weather, that's a pretty complete set of my short fiction. Tachyon's The Very Best of Caitlin R. Kiernan (2019) is sort of a sampler of all these books.

Ah, what else?

The year is so near its end. And, to me, 2024 holds in store the worst calamities we have faced yet. America, I mean. The ball will drop in Times Square, and we should all spend the next eleven months holding our breaths.

Here's a thing I whipped up yesterday and today, some of my favorite albums from the first decade of the 21st Century. Technically, 2000 was the last year of the 20th Century, but...I cheated.

01. Poe, Haunted (2000)
02. Neko Case, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood (2006)
03. The Decemberists, The Hazars of Love (2009)
04. Editors, An End Has a Start (2007)
05. Radiohead, Hail to the Thief (2003)
06. NIN, Year Zero (2007)
07. Iron and Wine, Our Endless Numbered Days (2004)
08. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus (2004)
09. Tom Waits, Blood Money (2002)
10. Muse, Black Holes and Revelations (2006)
11. David Bowie, Heathen (2002)
12. Placebo, Meds (2006)
13. Gillian Welch, Time (The Revelator) (2001)
14. Arcade Fire, Neon Bible (2007)
15. Bruce Springsteen, We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (2006)

The decade we stopped teaching children cursive...

Please viist the Dreaming Squid Sundries shop. Thanks.
