Goodbye, Norman Lear (1922-2023). R.I.P.

Dec 06, 2023 16:30

A sunny day. The high was only 54F.

I slept no more than two and a half hours last night. I wasn't well, and the discomfort kept waking me. About 4:00 a.m. I finally got up, made coffee, and spent a couple of hours working, as best I could, on MP 2.0. But it has been a miserable day.

Last night, Kathryn and I spent a while just talking about The Night Watchers, and my "eureka moment" finally came. If I can sleep tonight, I think maybe I can start the next scene tomorrow, though we do need to read through the whole ms. again, and that likely won't happen until Friday (I have McWane tomorrow). So, there's the good news.

Spooky had to take Lydia to the vet today. It is no small feat to haul a 24-pound tabby to the vet. Their diagnosis? She's in great health, but overweight and depressed. We're looking at trying to get her down 6 pounds.

The big news, for me at least, and the sad news, was Norman Lear's passing at the age of 101. Few people so entertained me as a kid as Lear, despite the fact that most of his shows where for adults. What a legacy: All in the Family, Maude, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, and Good Times. Some of the best TV in the history of TV, all from one man. That is a life well damn spent. Thank you, Mr. Lear. If only there were more like you.

God, I feel fucking awful.

Whatever else I was going to say can wait until tomorrow. I'm sure no one among you will perish as a result. Oh, the photo? A paleontology lab is a weird and hilarious place to work.

Later Tater Beans,
Aunt Beast
