"But the horror... the horror was for love."

A very rainy day, but the sun came back about 2 p.m. Our high was 67F.

It was rather stupid sort of a night. I feel asleep just before 1 a.m., and shortly thereafter the power went out, as we were having a thunderstorm. I have no idea why, lately, when the electricity goes out I wake up, but I do. And when the power goes out, this valley is so dark and silent, it reminds me of the rural Alabama of my childhood. A darkness and stillness oppressive and splendid at the same time. Anyway, I didn't get back to sleep for some time, and it's not like I could work. I dozed off about 3:30, I think, and then I woke a little after 4 a.m. to find the power restored. We very much needed the rain, but I didn't need a weird night. It led to a mostly unproductive day.

The wind took almost all the leaves off the trees, in a single night.

I did sign a bunch of books today, so that Kathryn can get them in the mail. I proofed an article for Adiel Klompmaker and idenifified a basisphenoid from the huge Braggs Mosasaurs hoffamni for him. I picked through some of the Bashi Marl. I agreed to an interview with Clarkesworld, which is be the first interview I have granted in years. Oh, and Ellen Datlow asked that people be informed that Lovecraft Unbound (2009) is on sale for $1.99 (that's the ebook). Oh, and I finished reading "James S. A. Corey's" Persepolis Rising. It was...better. I gave it four stars. Only two of these things left.

The afternoon's film was del Toro's Crimson Peak (2015). This is very possibily Guillermo del Toro's most beautiful film. Last night, we watched the fisrt three episodes of All the Colors We Cannot See (2023), and we're loving it. We'll finish the series tonight and then I will likely read the novel.

Please visit the Dreaming Squid Sundries shop. Thanks.

I leave you with the vertebra of a mastodon (Mammut americanum) which once roamed Alabama, ten thousand years ago.

Later Tater Bugs,
Aunt Beast
