Sunny today and a little warmer. Our high was 90F, with a heat index of 95F. At my daily 4 p.m. walk, you could feel the difference.
At least I slept last night, all told something like seven hours. For me, that's a lot of sleep.
The day was spent wrangling the Problem, the Snag, and it has left me frazzled and worried. But we are near to a solution. I have no faith in the world. Increasingly, I have little faith in the institutions I once held sacred. But here I am forcing faith, because the possibilty of certain people dropping the ball is too upsetting. Listen, you take on a responsibility, it is yours. No excuses and no bullshit. If you can't do the job, don't accept the fucking job.
That was suitably vague.
How about another of those interview questions? Yeah? Why not.:
Interviewer: If you had to put your finger on the single greatest problem faced by humanity today, what would it be?
CRK: The single greatest? Well, I'll call it climate change, but the truth is climate change is part of a suite of man-made disasters rapidly altering the world so that it may soon, in a matter of decades, be a place hostile to human civilzation. But sure, the shorthard of climate change covers a lot of what has led many geologists to call this the Anthropocene. This is a very grim time to be living, and I do not envy young people who have what's coming to look forward to, you know?
Interviewer: And you think it's too late to turn back?
CRK: Very likely.
Interviewer: Next time, let's, um, try something a little more...light hearted.
CRK: Unicorns and pink hearts.
Interviewer: Exactly.
There you go.
Oh, and on a related not, I posted this to Facebook today:
It can be amazingly hard to get people to understand that unless, say, China is onboard, there's not much point. (China is the world's main emitter of carbon dioxide, producing 12.7 billion metric tons of emissions annually. This dwarfs U.S. emissions, currently about 5.9 billion tons annually. ALL the EU emits only 7.2 tons of CO2 per capita - while the world average is approximately 6.3 tons per capita. So, those people splashing paint on art, go to China).
