"The dead space between the stars." (346)

Jul 14, 2023 16:49

Quite hot today, and no clouds until late. I took a short walk just to feel the heat. Our high was 93F, with a heat index of 103F.

Today was a restful day, or an attempt at one, after all the movement of yesterday. I did have email to write to SubPress and McWane, but that was pretty much it, workwise. I began Harlan's I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (1967*) and read:

* "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream"
* "Big Sam Was My Friend"
* "Eyes of Dust"

The afternoon's movie was Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Today, watching it, I kept thinking about an especially irksome review that complained the film is "eye-gougingly sexist," thereby missing entirely a goodly and obvious chunk of the director's intended social commentary. But such is the way of criticism. To miss the forest for the trees, and to distract me while I'm trying to enjoy a film.

There might be rain on the way.

Please, if you have not yet preordered a copy of Bradbury Weather, take a moment to do so. Thank you.

Later,
Aunt Beast
