Declarations of Ought (225)

Mar 13, 2023 17:01

This is going to be short. I only have about fifteen minutes, and it was a shitty day, besides. Last night was one of those nights when instead of only sleeping three or four hours I slept nine, and I've been off all day.

I think I'm dealing with some of the worst depression of my entire life.

At least it was sunny. But the high was only 57F.

This afternoon's movie was Edward Berger's adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front (2022). I already knew it made a complete farce of this year's Oscar's that Everything Everywhere All At Once won Best Picture, and Berger's film only underscored that fact. Sam Mendes' 1917 is now the second best film about WWI.

And speaking of farces, there's the BBC's decision not to broadcast an episode of a new David Attenborough series, Wild Isle, "...because of fears its themes of the destruction of nature would risk a backlash from Tory politicians and the rightwing press." Censorship is enjoying a true golden age.

I should stop typing, before I say something even more unpleasant than usual. Oh, there's a photo below of the archeocete whale storage area at McWane. Jun is in Japan for two weeks, which means I won't be in the lab for two weeks, but I at least have photos.
