The Writer's Desk (53)

A little cooler toady, and I think today is supposed to be the end of this early Indian Summer. Oh, and look, I did not even realize that it's the equinox. Anyway, our high was 95˚F, with a heat index of 97˚F.

I have not been well. Last night, the combination of a bout of stomach trouble (my innards are never right), coupled with the peripheral neuropathy in my feet...which has also been acting up lately...kept me awake pretty much all night. I got maybe three hours. And I've felt this lousy for at least a week now. But...I got up and tried to proofread (again) Living a Boy's Adventure Tale. I wasn't going to proof it again, but...yeah, it was a good idea I changed my mind about that. The novella will be improved by this second round of polishing (I never rewrite; I always polish) before the SubPress edition is published as a hardback chapbook with Bradbury Weather sometime next year. I didn't get as far today as I would have liked. I was just too ill from not sleeping. Maybe tomorrow I can at least finish the proofreading part.

This afternoon's comfort film was a film I find genuinely comforting, Tarantino's One Upon a Time Ago...in Hollywood (2019). I cannot think of a film that has so perfectly captured to feel of the late sixties, which I recall with amazing clarity given I was only four and five years old during the events of the movie. 1969. That was the year we moved to Jacksonville, Florida.

I have this photograph, below, that I found a few days ago on Peter Straub's Twitter feed. I think this is the first time I have not posted one of my own or Spooky's photographs. But it really struck of nerve. It says so much, both about Peter and about writing (at least, from my perspective).

Please have a look at the Big Cartel shop. Thank you.

Later Tater Beans,
Aunt Beast
