A foggy, cloudy morning, and the sun this afternoon. Much like yesterday. Our high was 74˚F.
I'm not going to talk about Russia and the Ukraine. There's nothing meaningful I could say that someone else has not said already.
But I did not work today.
The afternoon's film was Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Alien: Resurrection (1997). I have a strange relationship with this train wreck of a film. I don't know which thing damned it more completely, Joss Whedon's script, with all its tiresome Whedonisms, or Jeunet, who, by his own admission, had no interest whatsoever in directing the film. As a whole, it falls, but still...the cast is great, and it has a look (mostly via the indifferent Jeunet), even if it hasn't much else. It has moments, here and there. But the decision to follow David Fincher's film with a dark comedy from a French director (who didn't want to be there) is baffling and, in the end, it proved disastrous. Still, like I said, I have a strange relationship with this film. I like watching it, even if the jokes are sometimes too painful to abide and even if the tone is generally, well...inexplicable.
Last night we finished Season One of Mayor of Kingstown, and I strongly recommend this series. I will be very eagerly awaiting Season Two.
Have
a look at eBay. We've got cool stuff up, and thanks.
