It did not merely rain today in Birmingham. It rained goddammit and back again. It was a monsoon, a veritable deluge, Ray Bradbury's perpetually drowning Venus, a frog-strangler. That kind of rain. The sky turned black and the bottom dropped out. Flash flooding all over Jefferson County. We for over two inches in two hours, and the total for the day was 3.59". Oh, and CRAZY lightning. At least one tree across the street was struck.
And we were out in the worst in it. I had a doctor's appointment, and I thought we would drown on the way home. At one point, the truck came close to floating. So, that was fun.
No, I didn't get any work done. I never get any work done of doctor days, even when we do not revisit the Noachian Deluge.
For today's picture, you get
Vince Locke's marvelous illustration for "Cherry Street Tango, Sweatbox Waltz." The constant reader (I have those) may recall that this is the story that Joyce Carol Oates commissioned from me (Summer 2018), then didn't "get." When I refused to rewrite it for her, I used it in Sirenia Digest #151 (August 2018), and then Subterranean Press reprinted it in Subterranean: Tales of Dark Fantasy 3 (2020). And now it will appear in my next short-story collection, Vile Affections (pre-orders begin soon). So, all's well that ends well. Sometimes, and this is a good example, you win by losing.

Someday, Subterranean Press really needs to let Vince and I do a graphic novel.
Spooky and I continue our Hannibal re-watch. We are well into Season Two. It definitely makes my Top 50 Television Shows of All Time. Maybe my top twenty-five. Bryan Fuller is a fucking genius.
