"...in this, near wild Heaven."

Cloudy today and currently 75˚F.

Yesterday, after a trip to Whole Foods in Birmingham, we drove east from Leeds out Eliot Lane SW to Dunnavant Road and up and over Oak Mountain. In the seventies, when I was a child, my Grandma and Grandpa Ramey lived in Dunnavant, and this was the route we took. It's a steep, winding road, and people - like Spooky - who are from flat places find it a little intimidating. Farther west, out past Lake Purdy, the mountain has been ruined by suburban sprawl from Birmingham, but between Leeds and Dunnavant it's still wild. We drove as far as the intersection of Hwy. 20 and Dunnavant Valley Road, through the woods and past streams in the greening mountains and hollows, before turning back. I wanted to just keep going.

It's going to be very hard, leaving here, both because for me here is home and because we'll be driving back into cold weather where nothing is turning green and nothing is blooming. After days in the low 80s F, it's going to be miserable. But, hopefully, we'll be back here to stay by the middle of May, at the latest. Until then, I will try to stay busy with work.

Today is the one-year anniversary of the Haircut.

TTFN,
Aunt Beast
