"A simple prop to occupy my time."

Partly sunny, partly cloudy here in Leeds. Currently, it's 71˚F, and the forecast high is 82˚F.

The trip to Montgomery yesterday went very well. We poked about Old Cloverdale and Cloverdale-Idlewild and lingered near the Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum. We also looked at Capital Heights, but Old Cloverdale is likely the neighborhood we'll settle in, if we do choose Montgomery. Beautiful houses with affordable rents. Live oaks draped in Spanish moss. Tulip trees already shedding their blossoms. It's full spring there, which makes going back to Providence very, very hard, because that means going back to winter. We drove through downtown, past the State House and the Alabama Department of Archives and History and the First White House of the Confederacy, and I told Kathryn about a fifth-grade field trip to the latter two.

Tomorrow, I have to be in Tuscaloosa, and on Saturday we go home.

I decided months ago that the last thing the world needs is a novel about teenage serial killers on a murder spree, and so I set Interstate Love Song aside - likely forever. The Parkland shootings only served to convince me even more of the rightness of my decision.
