Not much to say this morning. We're getting ready to leave tomorrow. Since I'll be working the whole time, I feel as if I'm taking half my office with me. Outside it's cold. We're going some place even colder. But there are mountains and tall trees to hide the weight of the sky and to soothe my mind.
Shopping yesterday, which I loathe even when it isn't the first week of December. Take shopping and add Xmas music, and there's a little slice of hell. And it was raining like a motherfucker. Just miserable. But yeah, shopping in Warwick (that second "w" is silent, unless you just want to sound like a moron). I got new gloves, a sweater, a T-shirt, and a new pair of suspenders. I wanted a new scarf, but I couldn't find anything I liked. My old one will have to suffice.
Spooky's started
new eBay auctions (we're keeping these running while we're away from Providence, because checks are late). Have of look. They include a copy of
Boğulan Kız, the Turkish edition of The Drowning Girl.
And yeah, I'll be blogging from Woodstock.
Watching The Newsroom last night, it occurred to me that a very strong case could be made for His Girl Friday (dir. Howard Hawks, 1940) being a direct inspiration for the series. The parallels are obvious to anyone familiar with the film. The relationship between Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and MacKenzie McHale (Emily Mortimer) is awfully reminiscent of the tumultuous ties between Walter Burns (Cary Grant) and Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell). Though, Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell were an awful lot sexier, or maybe it was just the black and white working in their favour.
TTFN,
