"And yes, there was one particular glance that made me afraid..."

Cold and cloudy today. Rain on the way.

Yesterday I wrote 1,439 words on "The Peddler's tale, or Isobel's Revenge," and found THE END. More or less. There are a few lines that occurred to me last night that I need to go back and slip into the weave. But as it stands, the story is 7,443 words long, the longest short story I've written since...I'm not sure. Well over a year. And it's the longest piece I've written specifically for Sirenia Digest since sometime in 2011. I'm still trying to figure out exactly. I sat down to write something very brief, a companion to "Pickman's Madonna" (3,325 words), and I wrote this, instead. And I'm glad that I did. Another lesson that I ought never allow my initial intent to determine the outcome of the process. I sent the story to Joshi and to sovay*, and I also sent it to Vince, so he can begin his illustration. Today will be spent proofreading the story.

Also, I discussed title page design with Jerad Walters, for the Centipede Press edition of The Drowning Girl: A Memoir. And I sent Joshi an updated bio for Black Wings IV, which will include my story "Black Ships Seen South of Heaven." It was sort of a long day.

And Bill Schafer has given me the green light to begin compiling the Table of Contents for the second (and as yet unnamed) "best of" volume (Subterranean Press, 2015), which covers fiction from 2005 through 2013.

And I had a hot shower.

And spaghetti for dinner.

Now, I should get to work.

Ta,
Aunt Beast
