"If he knows I'm looking for him, why would he want to hide from me? If he doesn't know, what would make him reveal himself?"

"It's been a long time since you saw each other. Maybe he's scared."

He blinks. "Of me?"

[vicioussweetie]

"Of you, or of disappointing you maybe."

[greyfireson]

"Perhaps."

"Whatever he is doing or has done, I wouldn't care."

[vicioussweetie]

"I know." She hugs him, which requires rather a lot of stretching on her part.

[greyfireson]

He hugs her in return. Very gently.

"Thank you, Ali. Thank you for listening."

[vicioussweetie]

"You're always welcome, Grey." She smiles up at him.

He offers her a smile of his own.

"I am surprised that there is still a part of me that wants to carry on like a child about how wrong it is that my family is separated from each other.

I am surprised I still think like that. I imagined I was much more fatalistic."

[vicioussweetie]

"It isn't childish to miss your family."

[greyfireson]

"No, but it is perhaps childish to think that shaking my fist and saying 'This should not be so!' will get me anything but a tired arm.

Ranting will not alleviate or avenge and injustice."

[vicioussweetie]

"No, but sometimes it helps us feel better."

[greyfireson]

He grins. "It has some merit then."

[vicioussweetie]

She nods. "Definitely."
