A word.

First paging frolicndetour...

Background on the case for any one not familiar. Anybody see solidarity rallies where you live? I heard there was one in Times Square.

USA Today: Troy Davis' death row case in Georgia goes global

I'm too exhausted to recap. I'll just strip it to black man convicted of murdering white police officer. No murder weapon, no DNA. Convicted on testimony of 9 witnesses. 7 of which have recanted testimony. Allegations police coerced witness statements. Case has already been to SCOTUS and back. Governor, by law. can NOT pardon him. state Board of Pardons and Paroles hearing on Monday is IT.

To the lawyers in the bunch, Obama couldn't commute the sentence could he? Since this was a state crime, not federal.

I knew the rally was today but had a bad night, (aka dont remember anything), and was very late to work. Got told we were closing at 4:45. Well if everyone else is leaving...

Our local fox affiliate coverage http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/local_news/Troy-Davis-Supporters-Plan-Rally-20110916-ap-sd

NBC affiliate led tonight one reporter backing defense vs one reporter backing prosecution http://www.11alive.com/news/article/205624/40/Thousands-rally-at-Ebenezer-in-support-of-Troy-Davis

Guys, I never watch local news. is this WEIRD to anyone else? I get showing both sides but like I said, weird. Also, from the little I know of the case the pro-prosecution reporter did a crap job. I was going to get annoyed they led with this instead of the rally but I realized this was the lead story on THURSDAY night. You see how I was confused. Front page of http://www.11alive.com "Thousands rally at Ebenezer in support of Troy" links to the above.

Our ABC affiliate has an article up with 4 photos of the march. CBS affiliate only has the AP wire article. I'll give these guys the benefit of the doubt that there will be video up tomorrow.

It really says something when the Fox affiliate provides the best coverage. Two live reports tonight, one of which I saw being done at the park.

CNN, I may be in there somewhere from the shots of the park. Thousands rally at Ebenezer in support of Troy

Right, so the rally... I had to change trains at Five Points anyway so I thought I would go upstairs and take some pics. I only had my iphone and was wearing sandals. I expect a ton of people right out on the street but no. I walk up to the next corner which is the park. I see people but... you know I can't judge at all. Seemed like less then a thousand. Milling around. I notice lots in those blue shirts you see in the videos. I assumed they were volunteers and tried to ask one if I could take a sign sitting on the ground. I don't think he heard me. Well, that's nothing new. Then I saw folks at a table with boxes of shirts. I asked if they were giving out shirts. Well, they were asking for donations which I stupidly should have realized. Thanks to my boo boo this morning I had an emegency atm run so I pulled out $25. Felt like too much but I have no idea what is appropriate and again, the cause. So I have the shirt.

Well, if I have the shirt and the sign...

I don't like the crowd. I'm not comfortable. At all. But I wasn't able to push myself at D*C this year and if I could go with you guys to picket for the WGA during the strike then I certainly should try to march when someone is going to die in 5 days. (not the strike wasn't a valid cause. Just comparing apples to thermonuclear bombs)

Very confused about lining up. Trying not line cut but I had no idea where if any one was. I thought it was a marching band in back but turns out some guys with a tuba, sax and drums. Trouble was, they were playing so even with megaphones sound wasn't traveling. They tried to get us lined in columns of 7 and gave up. Someone got on a megaphone and gave an invocation/prayer. As the fellows in back never heard the request to stop playing, it was hard to hear. I think this was from Rev Sharpton.

One inspired soul with a megaphone started singing Pants on the Ground before we lined up properly.

I've never marched before so I dont know how these things usually go. It seemed very disorganized. The police were there but we kept getting snarled at traffic lights at the beginning. I think we had to wait to be waived through each time. No one had a megaphone during the march, maybe they weren't allowed? Chants would start up, going a few rounds and die. The crowd never could pick one chant all together. Again, not being able to hear seemed to play in here. We would get revved up in a few spots especially when we got to Ebeneezer baptist church.

I took a lot of crappy video I'm not okay with posting yet. only got a few pics but here they are. There was to be a rally at the church with Davis's sister, Rev Al Sharpton, the Indigo Girls and exonerated death row inmates among others. I was dubious about being able to handle this. When we got to the church everyone stood around outside and chanted. I hadn't realized the rally was to be indoors. Outside= i can escape. I started getting agitated. I took some of the best video since I wasn't moving around. Too much turning quickly while marching makes the video nausea inducing. The anti death penalty folks were there with lots of banners and drumming.

I was getting more and more in a bad way and nothing was happening. I had already decided I would walk home after but I don't know the route and it was going to get dark. I had also made sure not to forget that I had several psych assignments due by midnight. So I decided to just start walking home. From the news report I would have not been able to stand that many people going solo any way.

So I walked 1.5 miles home in sandals. After the 1.2 mile march. My legs hurt.
