I do actually have a reason for having not posted over the past couple of weeks - I've been away on holiday. Ali, Jess and I decamped first down to Bath for a few days, and then on to a place near Bridgwater. Near, thankfully, not in. I don't know what it is about the West Country (I strongly suspect the cider) but they seem to breed a type of halfwit quite unlike anywhere else in the country. I have never so many florid complexions and so few full complements of teeth. Bizarre.
But for all that it was lovely. We took Jess up to Brean beach, where clear skies and a brisk breeze meant it looked great but wasn't exactly sunbathing weather. Pics are
here, I think
this is my favourite. Jess, as can be seen, spent the entire running hellbent towards the sea.
Despite his grins in those pics, he was Not Well, unfortunately. Nothing too dramatic, just a bad cold. It left him very clingy though, and he spent the first couple of nights crying constantly and just wouldn't settle unless he was in bed with one of us. Which doesn't make for quality kip.
Luckily we palmed him off on the inlaws on Wednesday, giving us Thursday - Sunday to ourselves. It was fantastic. We took a trip to Kilve Beach, which is fossil beach. Amazing stuff - the whole beach is covered with rocks and slate that's like a book = you just tap it and a leaf of it peals away, revealing the layer underneath. I did eventually find a good fossil to take away; there's some awesome
ones actually buried in the rock on the beach.
The drive back was ok, back to work today. Booo. My final week in litigation, and it's already shaping up to be an absolute whopper. Still, it should pass quickly. I'm rather hoping to go to Amsterdam next weekend.
