Things rolling along quite nicely here; hard to believe we've been here 9 months now. It does feel like we're settling in - we've met a couple who live up the road who we've fallen in with, which definitely makes Hitchin feel more like home. He also play squash, so we've been trying to get a semi-regular game in at weekends which I'm pleased about.

We've been on a slow campaign to lose weight since new year. I've crash dieted before, and found that weight lost quickly also seems to be regained quickly. So we're trying a more gentle approach - no booze during the week, and large salads for tea, basically. Not too stripped down; lots of feta, a decent amount of dressing, homemade herb croutons etc. Weekends (friday night-sunday) we revert to normal food and drink. It's paying off - I've dropped 20lbs in the past 5 months, which I'm quite pleased about. Now the summer is here I'm also starting to get back into exercise - squash a couple of times a week, a couple of runs, a trip to the gym. Hopefully that'll help maintain the downward momentum. And my impetus to go to the gym may have acquired a momentum all of its own after last night's trip, which was considerably enlivened by getting into the sauna afterwards to find three amazingly hot polish women in there already sporting, well, not very much.

I've periodically been having occasional problems with my left knee over the past two or three years. It would occasionally "pop"; normally if I turned on it suddenly, but sometimes for no apparent reason. I realised the other day that these incidents seem to have stopped, which leaves me with the slightly depressing conclusion that they may have been caused simply by having to bear the load of my stomach :(

Still, all is well and summer looms.
