Good grief, 5 weeks since I last updated? If only the reason for this intermission was that my life has been a whirlwind of craziness.
Quite the contrary, it's mostly been 5 weeks of getting on with work and chilling at weekends.
We had an impromptu school reunion down in London a couple of weeks back, which was excellent fun. We had 8 of the 15 of us there (from our house/year), which isn't a bad turnout for something put together so informally. As ever there was much hilarity. One of my mates turned up in a London cab; not particularly notable in itself, except he got out of the driver's seat. It transpired that he bought this cab for £1400. It's still fully kitted out with a meter etc, and (more importantly) registered as a cab. Apparently this registration needs to be done once a year, and he "knows a man who can". So, he's able to drive in bus lanes, pays no congestion charge, and pretty much park where he wants with impunity. Not a bad deal for £1400.
Other than that, I took a pathetic amount of pride in myself for changing the battery in my car yesterday. I'm quite at home rooting around in the innards of a PC, less so a car. Still, I managed it.
It was mine and Ali's second wedding anniversary yesterday. In many ways I simply can't believe it's only been two years; so much has changed. Back then we were not long back from travelling, I was at uni, Ali had a job, we were living in Clifton, Bristol. Since then I've sat about 50 exams, Ali got pregnant, we moved out to the countryside, Jess arrived 2 months early (and spent a month in intensive care), I finished the LPC, I got a job in Hitchin, we moved again and started again here. I'm now nearly 8 months into a training contract and Ali is a stay-at-home mum. Hard to remember what 2 years ago was like, TBH.
Anyway, we celebrated this romantic day by, erm, Ali going up to Derbyshire to stay with my parents and me playing a blistering game of squash and then spending the night in on my own trying to finish GTA IV. Not exactly what we'd have liked, but Jess has a checkup hospital appointment in Derby today, so there wasn't much choice. We'll try and do something this weekend.
