"illegal" Prostitution and Drugs

Apr 28, 2005 01:02

It seems to me that there is an abundance of reasonably priced drugs and prostitutes operating in the good old USA. For something that is Illegal in this society they certainly seem to thrive.

First let’s discuss drugs. It is a fact that drug trafficking is a multi Billion Dollar a year industry. The total number of major drug lords in the industry could fit in an SUV comfortably. Some have virtual monopolies on the market. Every time we get rid of a major player another one pops up like a bad weed. There is no end in sight. In fact it is more economical for the Government to keep drugs by and large illegal then it is to leave it up to consumers. The money spent in the war on drugs would be better served in education, rehabilitation and treatment. But then again they don’t burn the money they seize in drug operations. It gets pumped back into the DEA and FBI so they can set up more traps and line more pockets. Not that I advocate hard drug use. Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamines, MDMA and LSD are terrible things. The first three are among the most chemically addictive substance on the planet. Cigarettes are the only thing more addictive then Cocaine, Heroin and Methamphetamines. But you don’t see the Government Outlawing Cigarettes. MDMA and LSD are just plan lethal. History is simply repeating itself. Making a substance illegal only creates a higher profit for people willing to break that law. Not to mention the lack of quality control. The prohibition of alcohol only made bootlegging more profitable. But people used to go blind from drinking bathtub Gin. Before the world became so self conscious and self righteous. It was not illegal for a consenting adult to buy Cocaine, Opiates, or Amphetamines. Addiction still existed. Most of the great legends in jazz were heroin or morphine addicts. But it was all manufactured in a clean controlled environment. They did not “Cut” the drugs with Liquid Drano to turn a higher profit. It was provided by a pharmacist and manufactured by pharmaceutical companies under rigged checks and balances. All these things are poisons to your body. If you are someone inclined to ignore this fact even after being educated. Then you are prone to doing it anyway. This leads me to my point. We should be accountable to our selves and our family. If society had a strong more open relationship with those they loved. These things would not exist.

Now one drug I have not touched on is Marijuana or Cannabis. That is mainly because of all the illicit substances you can ingest it is the least harmful and not chemically addictive. These are medical facts. Tetra hydro cannabin is categorized as a poison because of its affect on the brain. It kills brain cells, big surprise there. But the only portion of the body it affects is the brain. Even long term use does not affect the brain in as devastating a way as chronic alcoholism does. Chronic alcoholism not only damages the brain it also damages the liver, kidneys and cardiovascular system. Marijuana is habit forming because of its euphoric properties. But it is a choice. Your body and you mind do not become dependent on it to function. You do not go through withdrawal should you choose to quit smoking. Marijana is also sociatly accepted in our culture. As represented in our films, TV and music.

Right now there are only two realistic solutions to the drug situation. Make death the penalty for trafficking in Drugs. Now in cases such as Cocaine, Methamphetamines, MDMA and LSD I can see that as an ethical solution. All of these drugs take lives. But if you are going to do that you might as well throw Cigarettes and Alcohol in as well. It’s easier to prove that someone is selling drugs then it is to prove certain murders. So prosecution will move smother than before. No government would ever be able to pass this into law. The DEA does not want Drug circulation to stop. The conservative constituency would rather keep it a dirty secret, believing that if they look the other way, the problem will cease to exist. The other alternative is to decriminalize all narcotics and pour tax payers dollars into drug rehabilitation, treatment and education. Responsibility will be placed on the addicts shoulders. They will have to own up to there addictions. As long as there is a substance that allows a temporary euphoria. The possibility of wiping drug addiction from the face of the earth is a pipe dream. In either case I think that it is high time to decriminalize marijuana. It is no more harmful nor addictive then Cigarettes or Alcohol. It is used more now today than it was ten years ago. It is also a socially accepted form of inebriation. The only draw back to THC is that it stays in the blood stream for a long time and toxicity can not be accurately determined. So it is impossible to determine if a worker has just smoked or smoked a week ago. Companies that require drug screening for their workers, due to potentially dangerous work conditions, should continue to screen their employees.

Prostitution is without a doubt the oldest female profession in existence. Courtesans and concubines are apart of our social structure and have been for thousands of years. The biological basis for this is that women out number men 51% (female population) to 49% (male population). This is a scientific fact. There will always be an over abundance of women, unless you wish to participate in the inhuman slaughter of one percent of the female population. If you think that prostitution in America is only Hookers on the streets of the city. Look up escorts in your phone book or drive down I 45 through Houston Texas. Houston has prostitution dens lit up with Neon Lights. These dens of sin advertise them selves as “erotic entertainment”. The going rate for their “erotic entertainment” is a minimum $120 per session. If all they are selling is a more elaborate lap dance. You could get it a lot cheaper, just up the road at your local strip club. So if it is so blatantly obvious that Prostitution is here to stay. Why is it still illegal? Society will not own up to its existence. Conservatives believe that as long as it stays illegal then there view of the world is safe. But all that does is allow for woman to be beaten, abused, and degraded. In addition to the harmful treatment of women, it also creates an option for organized crime and drug trafficking. As an Illegal prostitute you have no rights. You have no way to defend yourself against people that will take advantage of you. It gives you no voice. In fact if it was legalized and regulated as it is in Amsterdam. The women of the industry could prosecute there abusers. The moral issue is of no consequence. Because regardless of peoples personal beliefs it still exists. It is sad that the world is so deluded that it can’t see that Prostitution still exists regardless of whether or not we believe it is morally reprehensible.

I in no way condone the use of methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, Opiates or MDMA. Nor do I condone prostitution. But these things will not just disappear. No matter how much we would like them to. Why should we add more pain and suffering to a world that has enough as it is. We increase the suffering in the world by prosecuting people for things that are of questionable moral value. Drugs and prostitution have existed in spite of all of this. Condemning increases the pain and suffering of the people involved. Why not try to allow human beings to do what they are going to do and educate them about the consequences of their actions. Our society no longer requires people to be self accountable. It would rather just condemn with out considering ways to help them.

That’s my piece. What do you think about what I have said?
