Well Merry Christmas officially guys! :3
Skylor and i are finally home safe.
Last night was hell. We were only planning on going 30 minutes (MAX!) down the road to see his mother for Christmas eve.
here's the schedule of what happened:
2:30pm:
-Leave the house after a half an hour of pitching ice and caked on snow from the car. We were still unable to see, the windshield blades were frozen.
2:50pm:
-5 minutes (that would be if it were NOT snowing) down the road at the Walmart FINALLY. Skylor goes in, grabs some de-icer spray for that night, a scraper (long version with brush on the opposite end), new winter blades for the windshield and some salt/chemical stuff to get rid and add some traction to the snow. Sky spends 15 minutes cleaning and replacing the wiper blades. We finally get that finished and get the car BACK in motion.
3:30pm:
-Cruising at 15-20 miles an hour down Sooner road, hoping to the gods that the psycho in front of us moves away from the fishtailing blazer. His ass hole-ish moves got him latched into a snow bank. We passed him. (right at this time we can't see more than 5 feet in front of our car thanks to the wind and snow)
4:00pm:
-We turn on a road that'll later turn into 89th street or something like that (can't remember which). Head down this road seeing multiple abandoned cars and locked vehicles that people are trying desperately to move from snow drifts (and failing horribly to do so, might i add.).
4:15pm:
-We are approx. one block from Shields road. We are stopped, inching centimeter by centimeter hoping to not get stuck. I stick my head out the window into the horrid wind and spot flashing police lights ahead. Our breaks decide to start freezing here.
4:30pm:
-Police officer moves back in the line, backing up, getting stuck, moving forward, backing up. He stops finally, gets out and talks to a few very concerned motorists. We just watch. During this time people are darting across and into the grass, bouncing through the traction and such over to the gas stations. We are waiting rather.... impatiently at this point.
5:00pm:
-We have thus been informed that (while only moving forward one whole foot at this point) there are multiple cars blocking our lane. Cursing loudly, we wait longer.
(huge long wait here)
-At this point we are up closer to the light. Deeper snow here, the wind's blowing like mad and it's slowly starting to get dark. People are getting out of their cars and pushing people up and out of the way, back into movement and easier roadways. About 30 people are doing this. Eventually, (after being rather upset with this guy in the trailblazer before us jumping out of his car every 2 minutes to take a cell phone picture and NOT paying attention), the people get pushing and we can finally go across to the next light, only about 30 yards away. We get stuck. The guy in front of us gets stuck. Those people that are helping, come screamin' in and start pushing, about 10 of them on the Trailblazer at once. They get him through, we start trying to go, no luck. All of a sudden we're moving and guys are pushing hard on the back of the car. We're out. Now to the second light! (our breaks froze here at one point.)
5:50pm:
-We watch as this massive Budweiser truck gets stuck in knee deep snow. He's trying.... HARD. People are rushing to dig him out, there's no pushing this beast. I spot a cop car darting over the grass, through the gas station and then completely buggers off. Leaving all of us to our own devices. (at this point I have lost faith in our police force in OK.) after a few minutes of watching, the truck makes his way about 10 feet if not a little more. (we are applauding now). Out of no where we watch two MASSIVE plows/road levelers pummel their way across the grass to dig out as close as they can to this truck. He now only has 15 feet to move and then traction will catch those back wheels! We're rooting for him. At this time we spot more flashing lights. An off duty cop had jumped in his massive Suburban and started directing traffic and helping push. He pulled us all forward, to the best of our moving capabilities. Dumb yuppie in front in the blazer gets his butt stuck AGAIN. (after jumping out a few more times for pictures.) He's spinning his tires WAY too fast. (this idiot doesn't know how to drive in snow.) After pushing a bit more the police officer gets rather upset with this idiot and slides to the side of the Blazer, pushing it as the guy spins his tires, thus causing it to slide to the side quite a ways. He turns to us and I can hear him through a parted window: "Jackass deserves it. Doesn't even listen..." (he speaks up here) "Let's get this little car out of here. It's gunna get stuck if we don't." He gets a few helpers and then says through the window "Once you start moving, don't stop. Keep going." We nod and drop to low gear, three guys on the trunk lid. He pushes and we slide free of our confines, truckin' along down the road now. (My faith restored.)
6:20pm:
-By this time nothing really exciting, besides a bit of slipping and sliding, has happened. We're pleased we've just had to go in a straight line. it's easier... Then comes the inevitable turn. We drift around, rear wheels losing ALL traction. We make it safely around the corner with a small Wheeeee from me... and a dirty look from Sky *giggle*
6:30pm:
-After a stop at the 7-11 we finally get to our location. We say screw it to the de-icer spray for the next morning and just grab stuff and head towards the apartment. Knee deep snow now..... we get inside and are happily greeted by a warm cup of tea and a nice sized dinner! (oh and a new pair of PJ's :3 *glee*
This was our night last night. A very Merry Christmas and love and blessings to all of those that helped us out and risked their livelyhood and their nights so that others could have a decent Christmas Eve.
Sky and I are back home safe now. Very happy actually. :3 Warm clothes, tons of socks, and hot cocoa!
Merry Christmas everyone. Give a hug to someone today, they may need it.
